Beta Nu Fall Newsletter 2015
The Beta Nu Chapter is positioned to have another very successful year after achieving second place on President's Cup in the 2014-2015 school year. This success wouldn’t be possible with the support and encouragement of our alumni brothers. Our chapter has a fully recognized Chapter Council, under the direction of Grand Chapter Advisor Brian Allman, composed of alumni brothers who work closely with undergraduate brothers to ensure that the chapter is operating to its full potential.
House Updates
The brothers at the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity have been hard at work this summer updating and renovating the house. Thanks to the hard work of the 28 active brothers in the chapter, and Alpha Sig alumni, these renovations were made possible (see pictures below). We would also like to extend a special thanks to alumni brother, Casey Ackerman, without whose generous support the kitchen renovation wouldn’t have been possible. These renovations include: flooring, wall repair, and trim in the kitchen, laundry room, and restroom; new cabinets, stove, microwave, and dishwasher in the kitchen; the roof and siding have been repainted; leaks in the basement have been repaired; and some electrical work was completed on the breaker system.
Homecoming Cookout
The undergraduate brothers of the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity would like to formally extend an invitation to Homecoming weekend which will be held on October 16-18, 2015. We will be holding our semi-annual Alumni cook out on October 17 at 4:00 PM, and would be more than happy if you could attend!

Elevate Leadership Conference
Our brothers at the Beta Nu Chapter recently had a successful weekend at Alpha Sigma Phi’s leadership conference, Elevate, held in Columbus, Ohio from July 30 to August 2, 2015. Our chapter brought back a Silver Cup and five out of ten possible awards. We received the Gary A. Anderson award for Membership Education, the Louis Manigault award for Risk Management, the Louis Manigault award for Financial Management, the Louis Manigault award for Community Service, and the Louis Manigault award for Communication.
The national fraternity provides all chapters with the possibility of receiving one of three cups in distinction for overall chapter operations. All Alpha Sigma Phi chapters have the opportunity to earn the Alpha Kappa Pi Gold Cup, the Phi Pi Phi Silver Cup, or the Alpha Gamma Upsilon Bronze Cup. In order to qualify for the Gold Cup, a chapter would have to earn 95% of the possible points on the fraternity Annual Report, earn at least 87.5% or higher for a Silver Cup, and at least 80% or higher to be recognized with a Bronze Cup. This past year, the Beta Nu Chapter earned 90% of the possible points therefore earning a Silver Cup.
As members of Alpha Sigma Phi, we have a responsibility to know what is acceptable and not acceptable when it comes to our behavior, the consumption of alcoholic beverages, how to treat each other, and the use of legal and illegal drugs.
The Responsible Sig Education is typically completed as part of Alpha Phase, but can also be completed by chapters and members outside of the Alpha Phase. Our chapter decided to complete as a chapter and begin this semester incorporating it into the Alpha Phase. We left with a clear understanding of the how to make responsible decisions that keep us and others safe.
Thanks to Liz Morehouse for helping us to Better the Man. #ASPResponsibleSIG

CHARITY - Aware Awake Alive
Aware Awake Alive prevents loss of life to alcohol poisoning by educating teens, young adults and parents on the dangers and symptoms of alcohol overdose. PURITY - Humane Society
The Humane Society of the United States, based in Washington, D.C., is the largest animal advocacy organization in the world. It counts more than 11 million Americans among its members and supporters. We encourage our members to give their time and treasurer to their local branch.
HONOR - Big Brothers Big Sisters of America
Founded in 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters is the nation's premiere donor and volunteer-supported youth mentoring organization. Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers and children in communities across the country.

Founded in 2004, Homes for our Troops assists severely injured Veterans and families by raising money, building materials and professional labor, and by coordinating the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently. The homes provided by Homes for our Troops are given at no cost to the Veteran they serve.
