## Unit Description

In this unit we learned about perimeter, area, surface area, and volume.

We used the bumper car ride floor plans and storm shelter floor plans to find perimeter and area. We used nets to find the surface area of any 3D shape. Finally, we filled an empty box with centimeter cubes in order to find the volume.

## What is perimeter?

**Perimeter is the outside of a shape. To find the outside of a shape you have to count all the sides and add them up. Perimeter is measured in units.**

## What is area?

**Area is the inside a shape. To find the area you have to use the formula (Length x Width). Area is measured in square units.**

**Area of Rectangle & Square = Length x Width**

**Area of Triangle = Base x Height /2**

**Area of Parallelogram = Base x Height**

## What is surface area?

**Surface area is the sum of the areas of the faces on a 3D solid. Surface area is measured in square units.**

**Surface Area of Pyramid = ****(L x W) + 4 (B x H /2)**

**Surface Area of Rectangular Prism = ****2(LxW) + 2(LxW) + 2(LxW)**

## What is volume?

**Volume is the space inside of a 3D shape. Volume is measured in cubic units.**

**Volume of Rectangular Prism = L x W x H**
