Dear Midland Families,
This week it was great to meet with some families to find ways to involve our parents and families in our work at Midland. If you missed this week's meeting, you are welcome to email me (pdawson@fpschools.org) or call (253-298-4501) for more information.
I want to thank you all for being diligent about keeping students who are sick at home. We continue to work directly with our district nurse and Tacoma Pierce County Health Department regarding students who have tested positive for COVID. We have not had any close contacts at Midland recently, but we do see that we have a high number of absences. If you have had your child tested, please be sure we get those results recorded, so we know when your child can return.
You may have heard recently that schools are not able to fill all substitute vacancies. This week at Midland, we have had to use several creative solutions to cover your child's class, if the teacher was absent. In some cases, Mr. Nunez, Ms. Stephens, or I have covered classes, while other times we have had to divide students into other classes. We are working hard to be sure that your child still has a day of learning, even if their teacher is out.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
It's great to be a MUSTANG!

Whole Body Listening—Attentive Listening
Listening is a very important part of learning. It is also important for connections and relationships. Here are some of the things that students are learning about listening in their classrooms.
K-2—Whole Body Listening
- EYES are watching
- EARS are listening
- MOUTH is Quiet
- BODY is still
3-5—Attentive Listening
- Focus on the Speakers Words.
- Don’t interrupt.
- Ask questions if needed.
- Repeat what you heard to assure understanding and clear communication.
These actions assure that students are ready for listening and learning, as well as building relationships and connections by listening to and learning from each other and the adults in our learning community.

Healthy and Safe practices at Midland
Just a reminder of the things that we'd like you to consider before sending your child to school each day:
- A temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or above?
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Chills
- Repeated shaking with chills
- Muscle pain
- Headache
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste or smell
These are some safety precautions we will be practicing at Midland:
- Students will be required to wear a mask on the bus, in the halls, in class, and at recess.
- Students will wash hands and use hand sanitizer throughout the day.
- Students will sit 3 feet apart in the classroom, and 6 feet apart during breakfast & lunch.
If your child has been exposed to COVID, or if they are showing symptoms of illness, you may not send them to school until they have been quarantined and symptom free for 10 days. Teachers will provide work for students during this time. We are counting on everyone to keep Midland safe for all students and staff. Thank you!
