Happy Fall Sierra Vista Families!

We hope this newsletter finds you and your family doing well. We thank you so much for all your support and for all that you are doing to ensure your student is actively participating in online instruction. We realize that online learning is not easy and we are proud of our students for the extra focus, dedication, time, and organization they are putting forth.

Please remember to encourage your student to attend flex time with their teachers and to reach out to them for that extra support, intervention, and tutoring time. Every afternoon (except Wednesday) our hard-working SV teachers are available to support students. Students can email their teachers or connect with them via their Google Classroom links, Each teacher has shared with students the best way to connect with them.

Also, encourage your student to attend our weekly Homework Club opportunities that are offered each day. All students are invited to attend. Our SV teachers are available to provide additional support in all subject areas.

Also, please continue checking your students' IC accounts (NOT GOOGLE CLASSROOM), communicate with their teachers, and reach out to counselors for any and all academic support needed to help your student SUCCEED! We are finishing up the third week of our new quarter and look forward to seeing student progress on upcoming qrt 2 progress reports as of November 13th.

We appreciate the kind words and affirmations you have shared in regard to our hard-working teachers and staff that are focusing on providing your student with engaging online instruction.

With gratitude to you all!

Dr. Hoffman

Spring 2021 Education Decision for Your Student

Please take a moment to read over the Spring 2021 educational offerings for your Sierra Vista student. These documents were put together by the district office to help parents make a more informed choice regarding the best educational program for their students once we are cleared by the LA County Health Dept and CDC for students to return to campus.

***Remember that you must complete a form for EACH STUDENT you have in the district!

Mr. Kuhlman, our district superintendent, will be holding two Zoom meetings on Monday, November 2nd, 2020, at 10:30 am and 6:00 pm to help answer questions that parents may have. We encourage you to attend one of these meetings.

Attached are the documents that explain in more detail the three options available for your students:

We ask that you complete the google form by November 13, 2020, that informs SV of your decision for what educational design best fits your student's need when we return. We need this information to assist us with our master schedule work.

Here is the link to the Google Form:

Thanks so much for all you do to support your student.

Keep Reading Sierra Vista! We Have Lots of Books!

Please remember that students may go online and check out library books through our Sierra Vista library. Once a student puts a book order in the system, library books are pulled for the students and they are available for pick up in front of our main office between 7am and 3pm each day.

Here is the link for Library Book Pick Up Request:

Once your students are finished their book we appreciate you kindly dropping it off at school so that another Plainsmen can enjoy reading the book too!

Also, the SV Library has LOTS of fun activities and links to encourage the love of reading. Please check out the home page here to find out more:

Here is a friendly reminder for all SV students and families about grades and credits:

  • Each class a student takes each quarter is worth 2.5 credits
  • To earn the credits, a student must pass with a grade of a D or higher
  • Students who earn an F in a class receive ZERO credits.
  • Quarter grades are permanent grades on a student's transcript
  • Quarter grades can be used to help place students in classes in high school (e.g. foreign language, honors, and AP classes)

  • A student that passes all of their 6 classes each quarter earns 15 credits each quarter.
  • There are four quarters in a school year.
  • 4 quarters X 15 credits a quarter = 60 credits in a school year
  • At the end of each school year, a student passing all their classes will have earned 60 credits.
  • Students passing all their classes and will be more prepared for their next year in school.

***Students that are not passing their classes in 7th grade should plan on attending summer school between 7th and 8th grade. Students may earn up to 10 credits during summer school. (Summer school is offered annually, pending funding).

SV students that earn all their credits in 7th and 8th grade qualify as PROMOTEES and move onto to high school. Students that earn under 107.5 credits are classified as non-promotees. They may "socially promote" to high school with their peers; however, they are very likely to face many academic challenges during high school.

Passing all your classes is POSSIBLE if STUDENTS:

Turn in all assignments

Seek assistance and extra help from teachers

Study for tests and quizzes

Complete all projects and essays

Participate in all re-takes and re-learning opportunities provided by teachers

If you need extra help:

Attend Flextime with teachers

Attend Homework Club

Work with counselors, case managers
