Help From the School Counselors
Keeping Students On Track During School Closures -Updated
We can get through this!
The Washington Post article encourages making a schedule and sticking to it. Try your best to have them go to bed and wake up at the same time they would during the normal school week Monday thorugh Friday. Set a schedule of when they will do their academic work online from their teachers, when the will have meals, free time, and physical activity. Below is an example of how you could structure the day for your student.
The silver lining of this pandemic is that there are many fun and educational resources online to keep your student engaged while not in school. Click on the link here for free resources from Scholastic to keep everyone reading, thinking, and having fun!
Or, your student can explore 12 museums from around the world through virtual tours seen here! Similarly, they can also go on virtual field trips to zoos, parks, and even planets! Check it out here!
If your student is a sophomore or junior, and is thinking about going to college, collegeboard.org and bigfuture.org are websites with a wealth of information and are excellent college planning tools. Since our College Information Night had to be cancelled, please be looking for the presentation on the CCT website soon.
Important Counseling Information
Additionally, our school adjustment counselor/social worker, Ms. Erica Tasha, is still available to all students who are feeling anxious, depressed, or who would just like to chat! She is available to connect via email or video chat. Reach out to her at etasha@capetech.us. She put together a presentation with resources for you and your family to utilize, so please check it out here.
Similarly, if your student sees one of our Gosnold clinicians, they are also available to do a video chat! The clinicians are working hard to make contact with parents to ensure that counseling services are not interrupted. Please have your student reach out to their Gosnold therapist with any questions.
So, I hope you find some of these resources helpful to you and your family. Please feel free to contact your student's school counselor with anything you need during this surreal time. Remember, this too, shall pass.
