School Announcements & Updates
PSSA UPDATES
Make-Ups will be occurring throughout the week in addition to Science PSSA -Tuesday & Wednesday. Please be sure to encourage our 4th Graders to Persevere! The Media Center will be closed due to PSSA testing. An email or announcement will be made when the Media Center is available.
SCHOOL-BASED COUNSELING
The new office for PA Counseling is located in the media center (the old production room). This room is no longer accessible to staff. Please utilize the 1st/2nd-floor production rooms and the 1st-floor kitchenette for any dining needs.
Cabinet & Superintendent Visit
Please be sure you are updating your hallway displays to reflect the celebrations and academic successes that happen in our classrooms every day! The Superintendent and cabinet are scheduled to do a visit and walkthrough at Wickersham on Monday, May 15th.
Track & Field Day
Today I have placed a Track and Field folder into everyone’s’ mailbox. The support staff all received a schedule. In this folder, you will find the scoring documents for your assigned group, the schedule for station rotations with detailed instructions for lunch, and the station directions. In addition, there is a QR code on the front of the folder for you to have easy access to the video that explains all of the stations and how to run them and keep score. Lastly, on the schedule, you will see the classroom teacher and then another teacher next to that classroom teacher. This is the teacher who will be taking the other half of the students from your class. You will be starting at stations that are right next to each other. It is asked that the classroom teacher brings their entire class out and to the stations that they are to start at. This is where the other teacher who will be taking the other half of your class will meet you. If you have any questions, please ask! I hope you all find this day to be fun and exciting for all!!
Please dress appropriately to participate in track and field day- sneakers and athletic wear encouraged!

DISTRICT ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPDATES
Sumdog Statewide Math Competition May 5 to May 11
Sumdog is running a free statewide math contest open to all students from Kindergarten to grade 8. Students simply play math games on the Sumdog website either at home or at school. Scores are based on accuracy and questions adapt to each student’s ability so everyone has a fair chance. The winning class in each state receives a trophy, a class subscription, certificates and house items. Use the link below to view rules and registration process. https://www.sumdog.com/enter_contest. Contact contests@sumdog.com to contact Lise Dale directly with any questions.
Open Street in Lancaster
The eleven schools that are implementing PBIS with state fidelity are participating in Open Street Lancaster on Sunday, May 21 from 11:00 am to 3:00pm. Open Streets Lancaster creates blocks of safe, car-free streets so that residents can walk, bike, shop local goods, participate in spontaneous play activities, and get to know one another. The event goes from Water Street to James Street and the 11 PBIS schools will encompass an entire block. http://openstreetslnc.org/about
Our goal is to connect the community with what’s happening with PBIS in our schools. Each school is going to have a table with a matrix and a fun activity that includes their school’s expectations: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. After students/children participate in their schools activity, they will be given a punch card that they will use to cash in for a prize at the Open Streets School Store.
We hope that you can come and support the High School Campus, Phoenix Academy, Wheatland, Hand, King, Price, Lafayette, Washington, Burrowes, Buchanan, and Wickersham as they participate in this event. Come out and see the excitement in our community.
SchoolPace for Grade 2 and 3 Teachers
SchoolPace Support will provide username and password information via email on April 26. This allows the teacher to have an account but not a classroom in the system. Grade 2 and 3 classes will be created in Summer 2017 for next school year.
Morning Meeting Focus: kindness
See someone going above and beyond...in addition to the paper version of the Staff Spotlight found in the main office here is a link that can also be used to celebrate each other…it can be completely anonymous and there is also a spot for choice on how you feel the celebration should be shared.
