Thoughts From Turpin
As we close the chapter on another month and head into the month of November, this is one of my favorite seasons of the year – a season focused on gratitude, thankfulness and appreciation. As I think about my experiences over the past few months, I feel so thankful and truly proud to be the Principal of Riverview. I’ve said it before, and I cannot say it enough – we have an incredible group of educators and support staff here at Riverview and I am honored to work alongside these folks each and every day.
As we approach this month marked by gratitude and thanksgiving, I am asking you to help me lift up our Riverview employees and celebrate their hard work. A simple thank you in the car line or a written note or email of appreciation can go a long way in providing our staff the encouragement and energy they need to continue providing positive experiences for our students. Our staff have been working so hard to meet the needs of our 482 students, and while we may not get things right every day, I know that every staff member here is committed to doing what is best for students. Now, more than ever, we need to stand together and lift one another up. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement of our RE educators and staff for all they do to support your children each and every day.
With sincere gratitude,
Mrs. Turpin
Veterans Day FUN
The time has COME....Next Thursday we will be hosting our annual Veteran's Day Parade along with the 4th Grade Veteran's Day program! While we are not able to invite these special guests into the school for our assembly, we hope this parade will show all of you just how proud we are to call you family! The RE Veterans Car Parade will begin at 9:30 AM on November 11th. Your student is more than welcome to ride with the designated veteran if they so choose and may just come into school through the office once the parade has finished. We encourage you to decorate your car to celebrate your veteran!
In addition to the parade, the 4th grade students will once again share a music program to celebrate Veterans Day! They have been working hard to prepare the music for this show and learn about the importance of Veterans Day. This group of students is excited to honor those who serve our country. After the performance for our students, a link will be sent out so that you will be able to see this amazing group of young musicians and celebrate with your family!
2nd Late Start on the Horizon
Make Plans Now
The Board of Education approved three (3) delayed start days for the 2021-22 school year. The second delayed start date is Wednesday, November 10th. Students will begin school two (2) hours later than normal. Students will need to be at school for their first class at 10:45 a.m.
Students who ride the bus will simply add two hours to their normal pick up time. For example, if the normal pick-up time is 8:05 a.m., the pick-up time on November 10 would be 10:05 a.m. The last late start date for delayed starts will be April 6.

Messages From PTA
Treats for Staff!
Lots of Halloween candy hanging around the house? A little chocolate in the building is always a treat for our wonderful RE staff! If you have extra from Halloween that you'd like to donate, feel free to drop it by the office, or send it with your student!
BoxTops for Riverview!
Turning in your BoxTops to benefit RE PTA is even easier this year! There are 3 ways you can contribute:
1. Download the app, register your name and choose Riverview Shawnee, KS as the school to send your earnings. After shopping, use the app to scan your receipt. The app will pick up any product that qualifies and automatically credit them to Riverview.
2. Doing online grocery orders with an emailed receipt? Just forward that email to receipts@boxtops4education.com (Important: you must have previously registered through the app to tie your email to your selected school for this option).
3. Physical Box Top clippings can still be turned in as long as they aren’t expired. You can tape them to any sheet of paper or save them in a ziplock bag to send in to school with your child. If learning remotely, please reach out to Stacy Schmidtlein at semontee@hotmail.com to arrange for drop-off.
With most BoxTop products being digital, the app is essential in taking advantage of all potential earnings. Thank you for your support!
Amazon Smile
Did you know your Amazon shopping can benefit Riverview Elementary? Just shop via Amazon Smile at smile.amazon.com/ch/48-1171703 and Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases back to Riverview!
