Hello NHS!
Our Next Meeting will be held April 15th @ 4pm
Classroom link: www.tinyurl.com/NHS-GCA-Clark
From now until May, we hope our members will work hard on this month's service project
Reminder: We have a new Study Island Class to track NHS membership and attendance :)
Get the word out: The GCA Talent Show is here!
Here is how to sign up:
- Create a 1 min video showing off your talent
- Send the video to gcanationalhonorssociety@gmail.com by 5pm on April 6th
That's it!
A panel of judges will review all submissions and pick 20 finalist who will get to submit a 2-3 minute act to be in the GCA talent show.
The show will be hosted on May 5th from 3:30-5:00 pm. The audience will vote to pick 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners!
NHS, here is what we need YOU to do: Get the word out!
That is the focus of this month's service project.
- Create flyers and videos to help promote the show. Upload them to your NHS folder so we can send them out.
- If you help with a school newsletter, add in this information.
- Let your classmates know during Class Connect sessions. (Take screenshots of this and upload them to your NHS folder) Perhaps you could even Kmail your teacher about announcing this information before class starts! Who knows?
Get creative! It is up to YOU how you decide to advertise.
If you are wondering how you will get credit for participating in this month's service project, no worries! All concerns can be cleared up in a quick phone call to Mrs. Clark letting her know how you helped this month.
As members of the National Honors Society, it is our job to foster school relationships and improvement, and this month, that means making sure all high school students get the chance to stand in the spotlight. Do your very best to get the whole school excited to attend and participate in this event!
Other ways you can help with the talent show:
Volunteer to help select the 20 finalist who will be in the show. Be on the lookout for an interest survey. At the next NHS meeting, we will be selecting the members who will be on the committee. (Note: If you want to be on the panel of judges, you cannot perform in the talent show).
If you want to donate prizes, be a speaker during the show, or help in other ways, contact Mrs. Clark!
(You're not required to enter the talent show for your service project; you're only required to spread the information.)
Tutoring!
In order to do the most good as members of the NHS, we will begin hosting tutoring sessions on Tuesdays from 4-5pm, starting March 17th. We hope you all will come and help teach. For those who wish to attend, fill out this survey for our tutoring coordinator Allissa McDowell: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1uXAqZ3wh1aGfRjP6V-cSJ5fOyij81bV3waoDfSVuCNw/viewform?edit_requested=true
To stress the importance of our work, here are a few words from our newly elected president Sanae Case:
Letter from the President:
Hello, GCA National Honors Society Members!
Firstly, I’d like to take a moment to thank all of you for appointing me as your 2015 NHS President. As president, I will strive to accomplish all of the goals of the National Honors Society, and make it my goal to make the GCA chapter of NHS one of the best. In order for the GCA chapter of NHS to be one of the best, however, we need the help of all the members.
This school year, the National Honors Society has started a Tutoring program by students for students. We have discovered that there are many “at-risk” students who are in need of help, and as one of our NHS ideals, giving back to our GCA community is our duty. So, starting Tuesday, March 17th at 4PM, the GCA National Honors Society will begin offering help to those students who are in need of it. All NHS members are encouraged to participate, because not only will you be receiving credit for your required monthly service projects, making up missed meetings, or acquiring community service hours, you will be impacting the lives of other students for the better. If you however cannot make the assigned times for live tutoring, there will be opportunities in the future to create videos on topics requested by those who need help.
You all are what make National Honors Society so great, so in order to do great things, we need your help. I look forward to your participation and outstanding community service.
Sincerely,
Sanae Case
National Honors Society President
Attendance! You must attend 5 NHS meetings a year per the NHS bylaws.
All of our meetings are important and your LIVE attendance is needed.
Why? Everyone must participate in order for NHS to be beneficial to all members.
If you have to miss a meeting here is what you need to do:
- Kmail Leslie Clark as soon as you know you have to miss
- Watch the recording
- Complete your “Missed Meeting Assignment”
If you miss a NHS meeting and want to continue to be a part NHS, you must tutor a GCA student on any topic for 1 hour. If you need help finding someone to tutor, Mrs. Clark will assist you.
Please fill out this survey for tutoring: http://goo.gl/forms/1Gyi5ZHHCh
Everyone needs to fill it out so we know what subjects you are prepared to tutor in in case you must miss a meeting.
