End of Year Material Return and Drive-thru Goodbyes
Dear Snail Lake families,
We are so grateful for your continued partnership over these past several weeks during distance learning! As we near the end of the school year, we would like to share with you a plan to wrap up the year logistically and to provide as much of an opportunity as possible for you and your child to say “goodbye” to the staff at Snail Lake.
We would like to invite you to come to Snail Lake on Tuesday, June 2 between the hours of 9:00am - 5:00pm. During these hours, we will try our very best to have as many staff as possible at Snail Lake to say goodbye including your child’s homeroom teacher, specialist teacher, and others that your child interacted with during the school day.
During this “Drive-thru Goodbye”, you and your family will remain in your car and will stop at three marked checkpoints. The first checkpoint will be for school staff to collect any school-owned materials that you may have at home from the trunk of your vehicle (i.e., library books, classroom books, any messages or gifts for the teacher, etc.). The second checkpoint will be for school staff to place items into your trunk (i.e., artwork, classroom items, a kindergarten diploma and other items from staff). The third checkpoint will include a few moments where you and your child can say goodbye to teachers and staff. There will be music, balloons, and FUN as we celebrate (from a distance) your child’s year in kindergarten and wish them well in the summer!
Please know that the learning tools (i.e., dice, counters, classroom supplies) that you received in your child’s initial distance learning supply bag do not need to be returned to school. Additionally, if you were issued a school-owned Chromebook during distance learning, you will receive a separate message regarding next steps.
Throughout your visit, staff will be following all recommended guidelines, including social distancing, for the safety of everyone. We ask that if you, or people you have been in contact with, are ill that you not participate in this “Drive-thru Goodbye”.
As we near June 2nd, we will send more details and a visual map about what to expect on this exciting day as we celebrate our wonderful kindergarten students!
All the best,
Ryan Lang, Principal

ISLAND LAKE PTA
With over 100 submissions from students and families at Island Lake, an all-school slideshow was assembled for Island Lake staff during Teacher Appreciation Week. Thank you to all of the families who submitted pictures and videos for our staff. It was greatly appreciated!
Notes for viewing the slideshow:
1. If you are viewing the slideshow on a PC, you will need to download the video before watching it.
2. Due to the number of submissions, pictures move very quickly in the slideshow. Individual grade level slideshows were also created and sent to each grade level's teachers. Those slideshows allowed for much more time to read messages from every student.
3. If your family submitted multiple pictures/videos, all pictures were included in the individual grade level slideshows and only a single picture was selected for the all-school slideshow.
May 18 General PTA Meeting Canceled and Outdoor Classroom Update
The MN PTA Board has advised that unless there is a dire need for local units to meet virtually, any business conducted at general PTA meetings should be suspended until is it safe to meet in person. Therefore, the PTA leadership team has decided to cancel the May 18 meeting and address all business typically conducted at this last meeting of the school year in the fall. However, in order to keep plans for the outdoor classroom progressing, it is likely a virtual special membership meeting will be called before June 4 only to vote on an updated estimate for this exciting project. PTA members will receive communication about this as soon as details are finalized. Questions about all PTA-related business are welcome to be submitted any time to ContactILPTA@gmail.com. The PTA leadership team appreciates your flexibility, and we look forward to meeting with you in person as soon as possible!
