Jarrod Buffington, the College of Engineering's administrative financial director, was this year's Staff Member of the Year. Jarrod is one of 30 staff members who support the work of the college.

Deadline May 31 for College Scholarships

More than 20 different scholarships are available for undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Engineering each year. The deadline for submitting an application for 2016-17 is May 31. Applications are easy to complete, and the rewards are great. See scholarships for applications and information on each.

Staff Appreciation Event Wednesday

If you're a staff member looking to dance, ride a mechanical bulldog, play corn hole, eat delicious food and feel appreciated, then Wednesday is for you! The second annual UGA Staff Appreciation Event will be held this Wednesday, May 25 from 10 am-2 pm on the Intramural Fields. Food, music, door prizes, sponsor giveaways and interactive activities are just some of the highlights planned for the day. For further details, see the Staff Appreciation Facebook Page. Women in STEM Leadership Summit Offers Student Scholarships

The inaugural "Women in STEM Leadership Summit" will be held Nov. 2-4 in Atlanta. Dedicated to providing women in STEM access to tools, strategies and networks to succeed in their chosen profession, the summit is being supported by the UGA College of Engineering, the Provost’s Office, the Office of the President, numerous corporate and private sponsors, and the IEEE Women in Engineering organization. Dr. Takoi Hamrita is the summit founder and organizer.


Details on the summit can be found here. Faculty, researchers and postdocs are urged to register for this event; undergraduate and graduate students may register for half-price. The college is offering scholarships to students who are, at minimum, in their second year of course work and have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership potential. To nominate a student for a scholarship, please submit their name, class standing, major, extra curricular activities and awards, and why you think they are worthy of a scholarship to Dr. Hamrita or Merry Crowder.

Optics Journal Meeting June 3

"Localization Algorithms for Super-Resolution Imaging" will be the topic of discussion at the next Optics Journal Meeting, on Friday, June 3 at 3 pm in Driftmier Room 316A. The program will be presented by Abhijit Marar, graduate student and club officer. Contact: Kayvan Forouhesh tehrani.
