NEWS & NOTES
Our vision should be known by all. In breaking this down, our learning environment will be:
- Positive- set the tone in our classrooms by building relationships and reinforcing positive behavior
- Engaging- instruction will be interactive and driven by student needs. This means intentional planning through posted I CAN statements aligned to daily lessons.
- Rigorous- Our instruction needs to be challenging and aligned to standards. Deconstructing standards into skills and teaching how to apply the skills is the end game. Critical thinkers are the desired outcome.
Shout outs for the week:
- THANK YOU staff for a GREAT first week back!! Keep up the positive energy, focus, and instructional push!
Full week...means we continue our push forward in instruction! MOY assessments begin this week and we need to use this data to directly drive our guided reading groups and stations. Once this window closes, walkthroughs will focus on the teacher table and stations. Be prepared to discuss at PLC's and know your students!!!
Continue the positive practices around our SOAR procedures. I am seeing some positive results from this the first week (calls to the office have been reduced) and students seem happy. We need to continue to lift this great start up! Focus on consistency in teaching and enforcing rules and expectations, making sure students are following them. We should not allow students to get away with not following these procedures, as this sets a bad precedent. Cardinal Cash should be here by next week to reinforce all the positive choices you are making.
Engaging and rigorous instruction....is the product of intentional planning (y'all know that!) Therefore, I should see this in practice. We need to be cognizant of the needs of all our students and make sure we push the right buttons instructionally. This also goes back to alignment of your lesson, from I CAN statement to the checks for understanding you use. How are you using this data to make adjustments to your practices? Take a look at some of the resources below in the DIY section around this topic.
Evaluations will start this week. Again, they are unannounced and will focus on Domain's 2/3. I expect to see the feedback given in previous evaluations put into positive practice.
Speaking of evaluations....for those who were in IPS last year, I am going to be finalizing evaluations from the 2015-16 school year by Tuesday, January 10th. You will receive an email from SFS when this has happened.
Boys Basketball plays Tuesday night vs. Global Prep 44. Game time is 6:00 pm. Come on out and support our undefeated team!
