Conroe High School Tiger Tracks
December 4, 2022
Hello Conroe Tiger Family,
We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Break! It was great to have our Tigers back on campus this week! It’s hard to believe that we only have two weeks until the Winter Break! We appreciate the effort that many of our students are displaying regarding being in attendance, getting to class on time, and focusing on academics. We have some who are struggling with this and it is evident in their grades and daily attendance. Parents if your student is one who is struggling with attendance or academics please help us help them by encouraging them to finish the semester strong!
There are all types of events going on right now - from fine arts to athletics - we wish all of our Tigers success! We hope you are able to come show your support! Here is some important information to help us end the First Semester successfully:
December Staff Appreciation
Please help us celebrate our AMAZING CHS Staff at our Chili Cook-Off and Carnival! Use the links below to sign-up to provide prizes or desserts! Thank you in advance for your support!!!
Students can gain or lose eligibility based on their second marking period scores. As your student is working on their semester average, remind them that it is the marking period that determines eligibility.
Credits and Grade Point Averages are determined by semester averages. Your semester exams factor into that average. It is important that you do your best as these exams will help or hurt your semester average.
Fall Semester Exams
Seniors may exempt one-semester courses if they meet the requirements. There are no exemptions for our fall semester exams for underclassmen. Exams will not be given early. Any considerations to this may be presented to CHS Administration. If a student is absent on the day of the exam, then a student will earn a grade of a 0 for the semester exam. Students will have an opportunity to make missed exams up when we return from the Winter Break. Students will not be allowed to bring their backpacks beginning December 14th.
2023-2024 School Calendar
Conroe ISD is seeking public input on the 2023-2024 school calendar. The CISD District-Level Planning and Decision-Making Committee (DLPDMC) is responsible for developing the 2023-2024 school calendar and has developed drafts for students, families, employees, and the community to review. Feedback may be submitted from Friday, November 18, 2022, through 8:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023 survey. Please visit the School Calendar Process Website for additional information.
The DLPDMC will then review all feedback and plans to make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees at their Regular Board Meeting on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
Seniors and Parents/Guardians of Seniors
There is a graduation requirement you must complete in order for you to graduate this school year. Seniors must complete one of the following:
Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); OR
Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA); OR
Complete and submit a signed opt-out form provided by the school district.
If you have any questions about this graduation requirement please contact our College and Career Counselor, Jessica Beckham.
We also want to let you know we will begin doing Tardy Sweeps in the near future as we have too many students arriving to class after the tardy bell. We know that students who are in class, on time, and prepared are more likely to be successful. Research has shown that schools implementing Tardy Sweeps have reduced tardies by more than 90% in as little as five weeks, thereby increasing instructional time and momentum. Curbing tardiness with a solid plan can significantly improve student skills by teaching responsibility, respect, accountability, and civility—skills that will serve our students well for their entire lives. If your child is caught during the tardy sweep, they will receive one day of After-School-Detention.
As the weather turns cooler, this is a reminder that students can not wear blankets while in the building. Any blankets brought to school should be placed in backpacks. If we have students that do not have coats or jackets, they may utilize the Communities in Schools programs on campus to help supply students with clothing needs.
Vape Detectors are active on both campuses: Be advised, campus restrooms are equipped with vape detectors. Students caught in possession of a vape device or under the influence may face severe disciplinary consequences, which may include, ISS/OSS, DAEP and/or expulsion to JJAEP pending an investigation. Please discuss the danger and consequences of vaping with your child.
(*Liquid THC is considered a felony controlled substance . Students caught with a vape device that tests positive for THC could receive a state felony charge, be arrested on campus, and face mandatory expulsion.)
