Weekly Family Updates

Week of April 3, 2023

Notes for the Upcoming Week

*Disabilities Awareness Week

Thank you to everyone who participated in our dress up days to celebrate Disabilities Awareness Week. We wanted to raise awareness about the supports and rights of the people with disabilities and to celebrate their contributions to our communities and society as a whole!

The district also blew bubbles for Autism Awareness Month, aired on Fox News, in recognition of individuals and families affected by autism. Bubbles are symbols of joy, hope and laughter, which bring people together. However, bubbles have a greater significance for children with autism. They are used in an array of activities focused on skill development such as social and communication techniques. Autism is especially important since the CDC estimates 1 in 68 American children are diagnosed within an autism spectrum disorder.

*Take Your Child to Work Day

Take Your Child to Work Day will be held on Thursday, April 27th. This is an excused absence for students. If your child will be participating, please complete the form above by April 24th.

*Home and School Communications

H&S will be sending a communication each week on Wednesdays at 6:00pm. Please be on the lookout!

*National Reading Month

Thank you to all that participated in National Reading Month. We enjoyed dress up days and plenty of reading. Passports are now due to homeroom teachers.

*Multicultural Night at the Samuel Mickle School

What a fun-filled night of dancing, eating and learning about various cultures. This was a celebration of cultures that make up our community. Thank you to all that participated and attended.

*Parent Drop Off

Please have your students exit on the passenger side of the vehicle as a safety precaution. This allows your student to exit directly onto the sidewalk.

*Attendance

If your child is absent or going to be late, please remember to notify the school by calling the attendance line. The school number is 856-423-0412. Press 2 for the Samuel Mickle School. Then, press 1 for the Attendance Line.

Character Dares

The purpose of the Character Dare process is to build habits of character by offering consistent, practical ways to engage in the practice of these sometimes-abstract traits. A weekly (and sometimes daily) exercise and check-in around something like kindness helps bring the character trait to life in our real relationships and provides a system for regular conversation and action.

"Responsibility" character dare choice boards will be due on April 5th.

"Integrity" character dare choice boards will be due on May 3rd.
