Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
November 13th-21st
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Science: This week we will continue learning about plants and animals with Lesson 3 on Classifying Animals and Lesson 4 on Animal Life Cycles. After Thanksgiving, we will review Lessons 1-4 on Monday-Tuesday and take a quiz over all 4 lessons on Wednesday 29th.
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week we will continue learning about the colonies. Our quiz over the Northern, Middle, and Southern colonies will be Tuesday. Then we will explore the Triangular Trade route and how the Colonists had conflicts with the Native Americans. After Thanksgiving, we will review all of our colony information and take a unit test on Thursday 30th. A study guide will be given this Thursday so students can start studying for their unit test.
- Mrs. Thurston's Math/ELA: This week we are continuing our new non-fiction unit, Reading the Weather, Reading the World. Please encourage your child to pick up more non-fiction texts . In writing this week, we will continue our new unit, Boxes and Bullets: Personal and Persuasive Essays. Spelling tests will be given each day of the week. Each group has its own day. They all know what day they test on! In math, we will continue Long Division. Quiz on Friday!
- Ms. Harris' GT Math/ELA: This week in ELA we will examine nonfiction text structure and how that can illustrate the author's purpose for writing. Students' "Who Was" novels are due on Wednesday. In writing, we will begin drafting students' expert exhibit research papers. Students must have a completed outline ready for class on Tuesday. In math, we will be finishing up long division with a problem based learning project. There will be no spelling the short week of Thanksgiving or the week after.
Book Orders Are Due Tuesday 21st
Scholastic Book Orders are going home in Wednesday folders this week. You can pay online with our class code "GKCDN" or send in the order form and money. Scholastic Book orders are the cheapest way to buy books, especially for the holidays. If you are ordering books as gifts and would like me to keep your books in the office for you to pick up, please let me know.

Thank you so much for the beautiful thankful turkeys that everyone created. Some of you are SUPER CREATIVE!!!! They look amazing and the kids were so excited to see all the kind and wonderful words you wrote. Thank you again for participating in this project.
Discovery Place Field Trip is 1/19
We are going to Discovery Place on January 19th for an all-day field trip to learn about animal adaptations. The cost with buses is $19. It is preferred that all payments be made online, but check or cash may be sent to school if online payment is not possible. If you are interested in chaperoning, please email me. The chaperone fee is $8.

GT Parents:
THANK YOU SO MUCH for the wonderful items that have been brought in for Operation Christmas Child. The kids are so excited about this opportunity to help others and stuff the boxes tomorrow. Any last items can be sent in tomorrow, but boxes will be finalized by tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.
Other Information:
- Information will be coming soon about our Homeroom and GT holiday parties.
- FMES Angel Tree will be up after the Thanksgiving holiday. This is a great way to help families in our community during the holiday season.
- GT: Expert Exhibit Presentation is Friday, December 15th from 1-1:30. Students will need to come dressed in a costume and with props that represent their famous expert. Please see parent letter and rubric that was sent home for more information.
