A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It was really special to see Manjaree Place come to life as the central area of focus for our Reconciliation Week celebration. The healing hands and Aboriginal flags certainly had pride and place last Wednesday.

HOST FAMILIES REQUIRED – SAGAMI STUDENTS
Over the past twenty years, Prendiville Catholic College has hosted visits from groups of Japanese students from Sagami Girls Junior High School. The visiting girls are billeted with Prendiville students' families. Those families that have participated in the past have found the experience very enjoyable. Many friendships have been developed and it is an excellent opportunity for our students to gain an appreciation and understanding of Japanese culture.
With the success of previous tours, the College will host a visit of students from Sagami from Thursday 25 July to Tuesday 6 August 2019. There will also be some students wishing to stay longer until 20 August 2019. The students will undertake tuition at the College to improve their English skills with organised activities and sightseeing being arranged at the College. The visiting girls are aged between 14 and 16 years. Families that can help by accepting students into their home will be compensated $350.00 per student.
If you are able to assist by billeting a student or have any queries regarding the visit, please contact Mrs Leishele Pearce Leishele.Pearce@cewa.edu.au or 9301 6221.
NEW COLLEGE BUS
I am pleased to advise the arrival of our new College bus, a Yutong 27 seat coaster. Currently our fleet now consists of two Yutong 27 seat coaches and 2 Toyota Coasters. The new Yutong coaches have the latest safety features including passenger seat belts to ensure the safe transport of our students.
Funds have been made available through the Bus Levy to support the purchase of the two Yutong coaches.

MEET THE GUARDIAN ANGELS
“Following the success of the Peer Leader program, I still wanted to continue with helping the Year 7's having someone to talk to if they are feeling lonely. Not only does the Guardian Angel program help continue that support for Year 7’s who may feel lost, but also for those in other years who just might need someone to talk to. This program is a way for older years to connect with younger ones and to use the skills that they have learned and want to pass on. The Guardian Angels is all about embracing the Prendiville community and making sure that no one gets left behind. I am super excited to be a part of this new Prendiville group.”
Olivia Howell Year 10.
“Guardian Angels is an initiative that is run by Year 10 and Year 11 students. We value inclusivity and the engagement of all students. Our aim is to ensure that we are approachable to younger students at Prendiville. We want to create a safe environment where all students feel comfortable to be themselves.”
Helen Sang and Jasleen Hundal Year 11
Following the exam period, the Year 10’s will be available around school at recess and lunchtimes and the Year 11’s will be available in the library at lunchtimes. They are identifiable by the Angel Wings badge and are happy to offer support, answer questions and give advice.

ACC Cross Country results
Congratulations to all students who competed in the 2019 ACC Cross Country carnival. It was a beautiful day at Alderbury Reserve with 76 competing ACC schools. Although students finish with an individual place, the Prendiville students had developed a sense of membership over the term and understood what was required of them within the team.
There were some outstanding individual performances this year; James Malone (U14 boys) finished 4th, Thomas Rooke (U14 boys) finished 8th and Kasey Nicholas (U13 girls) finished 12th.
There were also some fantastic team results. U14 boys finished 1st taking away the champion trophy for their age group. The U13 girls finished 3rd receiving some valuable points for Prendiville. Overall Prendiville finished 14th which is 4 positions higher than 2018.
Interhouse Surfing Carnival
On Saturday 22 June Prendiville will be hosting the 2019 Interhouse Surfing Carnival at Trigg Beach. The carnival will commence at 7am and finish around 1pm. This is a great event and all members of the Prendiville community are welcome. Students have been sent information for registration which is due by the 14 June. Students can select to compete in Surfing or Bodyboarding and do not have to be enrolled in the Surf Science program to compete. Parents will receive additional information this week.
Athletics Specialist Training
Athletics is the next ACC event on the sporting calendar. This year we will have hurdles specialist Lyn Foreman and decathlete Kylie Wheeler returning to work with the team. Training for hurdles and high jump will commence in Term 2 with the rest of the events commencing at the beginning of Term 3. All students are invited to attend athletics training if they wish to be a part of the ACC Athletics team.

ESU - EARN AND LEARN
We are excited to be taking part in the 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn program and would like to make this our best ever.
During the previous campaign, we were able to purchase some great resources for the Endeavour Centre with the points we earned, thanks to you.
From now until 25th June 2019, you can collect stickers at Woolworths that go towards Earn & Learn points. For every $10 you spend at Woolworths (excluding the purchase of tobacco, liquor and gift cards), you will receive a sticker. These stickers can then be given to your children to collect on a special sticker sheet. Once it is completed, they can simply bring it back here to school or you can drop them into your local Woolworths collection box. The more points we earn, the more we can redeem from a choice of over 10,000 educational resources including mathematics and English resources, art & crafts materials and much more!
Lets stick together and try to make this one the biggest yet!
We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program. If you have any questions, please ask at school.

CLASS OF 2009 REUNION
Prendiville had the pleasure of assisting in the hosting of the 10 year reunion for the Class of 2009 in the Cellar Bar at The Oxford Hotel Leederville last Saturday, June 1st.
Forty-two alumni joked, laughed, swapped stories and tales of days gone by in the unique surrounds, underground at the historic Oxford. Creative Arts teacher Jodie Whitby (actual Class of 2009 student) and Paddy Devlin helped Alumni Coordinator Chris Greenwood make the night the memorable success it was.
https://www.facebook.com/prendivillian/
An interesting statistic to come from the interaction was the fact that three couples had formed long-term relationships or lifers as Ben Traynor (2009) put it, from the group. If it had not been for Prendiville CC, then they may never have met.
The College wishes the group every success in the future. It was a great pleasure being a part of your celebrations.
Chris Greenwood
