Big picture

Army Trail is looking for parents and families member to volunteer and help the PTA. The PTA is vital to supporting students through family-oriented activities, fundraising, and other unique opportunities. Please consider helping out! Please reach out to Yolitzin Martinez yolitzin22@gmail.com for additional information.

Winter Weather

As the temperature continues to get colder and winter sets in, please ensure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather. Army Trail students will go outside for mask breaks, recess, and unstructured play throughout the winter unless there is precipitation, ice, or temperatures below 20 degrees. If you know of anyone in need of winter coats, please contact the Army Trail Office.

It is also vital, for the safety of our students, that the student pickup and dropoff procedures are followed. Please click the buttons below to review those procedures.

Second Step: Skills for Learning

In January, our schoolwide theme is empathy. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.

Second Step lessons specifically teach about empathy. You’ll be receiving Home Links describing why empathy is important and including fun activities to do with your child to help him or her identify feelings and practice showing empathy and compassion. We hope you find them helpful.

Please tell your child’s teacher if you have any questions about how you can help your child learn to identify feelings and show empathy and compassion at home.

In February, our schoolwide theme is emotion management. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll be prompting students to notice their own feelings by paying attention to clues in their bodies, and we’ll be reminding them to use their Second Step skills to calm down:

  • Stop—Use your signal
  • Name your feeling
  • Calm down: Breathe, count, use positive self-talk

These skills help students calm down strong emotions when faced with learning and social challenges, which helps them succeed academically and get along well with others.

All School Celebration

Every month Army Trail celebrates students that have met or exceeded our expectations for behavior by being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible. On Friday, January 7, we will celebrate by having a movie party in each classroom. Students who have not met our expectations will attend an alternative activity by receiving an office referral during the month. During this time, students will be re-educated on the Army Trail expectations.

Shield Testing

SHIELD testing will continue on Wednesday mornings on 1/5, 1/12, 1/19, & 1/26 For those participating in our weekly COVID testing.

ALiCE Drill

On Wednesday, January 12, we will be practicing our ALICE protocols in a lockdown drill. Please contact the office with any questions regarding this drill.
