Updates from Superintendent Radeke

January 28, 2022

The Governor proclaimed this week Paraprofessional Recognition Week.

THANK YOU to our paraprofessionals this week, and every week, for all they do to inspire, challenge, and support Lester Prairie students every day. We appreciate you!

Staff Highlight: Mike Bjork - Secondary Science Teacher

A little bit about myself and background: I grew up on a small farm outside of Dassel, MN and graduated from Dassel-Cokato High School. I graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in Law Enforcement and spent 12 years working as a Police Officer with the City of Savage. I was injured on duty and my career ended. I went back to college and graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in Earth and Space Science Education. I was hired at Lester Prairie in 2009 and have been here ever since.

I have been married to my beautiful wife, Vickie for over 33 years and we live just outside of Winsted. Vickie is a CPA and works in Edina. We have 2 daughters, both are nurses. And, we have one son-in-law.

A favorite thing that I like to do is: Spend time with my family at DisneyWorld. We generally go at least once a year.

My hobbies are: Cooking, baking, traveling, photography, woodworking, and going for long drives in our convertible.

Something you might not know about me is: I donate blood to the American Red Cross every 56 days (or as close as I can get). I have donated over 7 gallons so far.

My favorite movie is: I really don’t have a favorite movie. If a movie can grab my attention and keep me interested, then I really enjoy it. I guess if I had to choose, any movie with Morgan Freeman in the leading role is at the top of my list.

My favorite book is: “Where the Red Fern Grows” - I like the loyalty and the bond between the boy and his dogs.

My favorite sport or activity is: Trap Shooting - I like the challenge. I enjoy the individual and team competitions. I really enjoy being able to tone out everything else, like nothing else exists, and focusing on the target.

If I could meet any historical person, it would be: Wow, there are so many. One would be Wyatt Earp. - I am fascinated by the old west.

Staff Highlight: Lisa Hins - Head Custodian

Lisa grew up in Glencoe. She has 2 brothers and 1 sister. Some of her hobbies include ice fishing, reading, and painting. One of her favorite things to do is to read. She loves mystery and romance novels.

Lisa's favorite movie is Spider Man because she loves action and adventure movies. Marvel movies are a family thing. Her favorite books are the Harry Potter books.

Two things you may not know about Lisa:

1. Her family on her dad's side are all hunters.

2. She wrote a book of poems and had it published when she was younger.
