Cheers for Children is here! Get in the holiday spirit!

Dear DATA Families,

It is the time of year to donate items and help other families in our schools that are in need. Cheers for Children starts Monday, December 2nd and runs until December 19th.

Our school has been assigned DRIED DESSERTS: cake mix, Jello, muffin mix, pudding, and sugar.

Please turn in any donated items to Ms "K" in Physical Education. Additionally, please note turning in 10 non-perishable items gets the student a mile pass. Top ramen is not acceptable for the mile pass. All non-perishable items are acceptable.

A message from Ventura Unified School District regarding Antonio Calderon

We have received many messages from Ventura Unified families who have expressed a desire to help the Calderon family. Antonio is remembered as a respectful, joyful, peacemaker, who was an excellent role model for his siblings and the other students at Ventura High School. We are committed to helping the family through this devastating loss.

Funeral arrangements for Antonio have been made, and the family has asked us to share the information; all are welcome.

On Sunday, November 24, there will be a public viewing from 4-8 pm with a rosary at 7 pm at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home located at 757 East Main Street, Ventura CA 93001.

On Monday, November 25, there will be a funeral mass held at 11 am at the San Buenaventura Mission, located at 211 East Main Street, Ventura, CA 93001.

Antonio’s family has requested financial assistance in covering the cost of funeral expenses. If anyone would like to contribute, they may either drop their donation off at the front office of any of our VUSD schools or send a check, payable to VUSD, placing the name Antonio in the memo section and mailing it to:

Ventura Unified School District

Attn: Betsy George

255 W. Stanley Ave.

Ventura, CA 93003

The family also has a private GoFundMe page that can be contributed to if you would prefer to do so. https://www.gofundme.com/f/nfjqfq-raising-money-for-my-brothers-funeral?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet

We are strongest when we work together to support one another. As we move forward, we will continue to have counselors, psychologists, and administrators ready and available to work with our students and staff who find themselves feeling anxious, want to talk or have questions.
