Third & Fourth Grade
Hawkenings
September
Ooops! Sorry, forgot to include some email addresses with this Newsletter. So here goes.
Well it's back to school already and homework is starting.
In my English class all students are expected to have homework Monday to Thursdays but never on Fridays. It is my firm belief that families must take the time to spend together and sometimes
MATH
Mr. Achata and I gave the children a quick test to see how much they remember from last year. We then divided the children and grouped them according to ability, knowledge and speed. For the second term we will switch groups to ensure that the children get Math in both languages. Students may switch if the class proves to be too difficult or too easy. Understandably this will not be done weekly but as needed.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Spelling tests will be given on Fridays with the group I have. Each will be given a quiz on words often misspelled for the first week. Then the list will be given. 4th Grade will have their first test next week Sept 22 and every other Friday from then. 3rd Grade will have their test starting Sept. 29 and every other Friday from then.
Writing will encompass Penmanship/Handwriting and Writing Compositions. We started with students using question words to form questions and then providing answers. Who, What, When, Where, Why, Which and How.
It led into the 4 Kinds of Sentences. From here we will keep expanding our writing.
We are reading stories from the Basal textbook and also a Chapter book. I hope to inspire a thirst for reading.
