Doors will open at 8:10 for party volunteers and 8:20 for party attendees. A big thank you to our parent volunteers for making this event safe and fun for all students!
Costume Guidance
- Costumes are optional
- Costumes need to be easily removed
- Costumes will be worn only during the class party
- No accessories as these are easily lost
- Costumes must be school appropriate; no weapons or violent themes
- Face must be fully visible; no masks, face coverings, or face paint
Parking
Parking is very limited, especially on event days. Walking or carpooling, if you are able, is highly recommended and can make a big difference to overall congestion. When parking, please be considerate of our neighbors and do not block driveways.
Planned Absences and Class Work
As families make arrangements for the holiday season, please be advised that teachers may not be able to provide class work for planned absences. Learning activities are designed to be carried out in the specific context of the classroom and will therefore include elements that may not be properly or appropriately captured in a worksheet; e.g., classroom discussions, conferring with the teacher, or using a graphic organizer.
Ask your teacher for specific information, but don't be surprised if they simply ask your child to take a good book, write in a journal, or engage in another activity of a similar type.
Culture Travel Week Artifacts and Informational Meeting
Do you or any of your friends of Swedish descent have artifacts or interesting material from Sweden to loan us for Culture Travel Week? We are happy to coordinate pick up & all items will be well taken care of and just for visual display. This is a great event where students will explore the culture and natural beauty of Sweden through food, traditional clothing, handicrafts, informational videos, music and more.
Are you able to help the CTW committee plan & prep in advance?
Informational meeting is Monday, Oct 21, 8:30-10am in the small room inside the library.
If you can stick around after drop off please RSVP to Marlise (bobberpdx@yahoo.com)

Dyslexia Awareness Month
What is Oregon’s State of Mind on Dyslexia?
Oregon developed its first legislative guidelines for dyslexia in 2015 with the passing of Senate Bill 612 followed by 1003 in 2017.
By law, each school is required to complete a universal screening on all kindergarten and first grade students to identify those who are at risk for dyslexia. This bill also mandates that each K-5 school have an extensively trained educator to be able to recognize the warning signs of dyslexia and support students, teachers, parents, and the community (Dr. Thomas Beck, 2017).
There also are three major federal frameworks that directly affect children with dyslexia. They are the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Watch and listen as Dr. Carrie Thomas Beck, Oregon Department of Education Dyslexia Specialist, explains Oregon’s legislation: (Video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufO6gcxqRvk

If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s learning, please contact the school principal and/or literacy specialist. Another great parent resource would be to contact your school’s Student Services Parent Advisory Committee (SSPAC) representative.
