Back to School Bash for 8th Grade
Greetings 8th Grade Parents!
Prairie Star is getting ready to host our first ever 8th Grade Back to School Bash. The event will be held Friday, August 19th (3:00-5:00). Tickets will be on sale before school and during lunch on Friday, August 19th for $10 per student. Each ticket includes a snack and beverage. Additional snacks and beverages will be available for a minimal cost. We hope the 8th graders will join us for a wrecking ball inflatable, an obstacle course inflatable, a basketball tournament, a volleyball tournament, games in the library, and a dance floor.
In order to make this event a success we are looking for volunteers to help the day of the event. Your time commitment will be from 10:45-11:35 AM to sell tickets during the 8th grade lunch period and/ or 2:30-5:15 pm that day for the event.
This should be a great event and we are looking forward to working with you all.

There has been a small change in the amount and frequency of our Early Release dates for the coming school year. Please note, we will only be having 9 Early Release days this year. The original calendar had 13 dates for Early Release. On Early Release, students must be picked up at 1:10. The following nine Tuesdays will be Early Release dates for this year:
- August 30
- September 13
- October 4
- November 1
- December 6
- January 24
- February 7
- March 28
- April 18
Changes made to 2016-17 calendar
The Blue Valley Board of Education approved calendar modifications at its Aug. 8 meeting that impact the elementary and middle school early release schedule for the 2016-17 school year.
These changes to the 2016-17 calendar will help meet the ongoing professional development needs of our staff while students remain in school. In an effort to maximize time in the classroom, the district eliminated some early release days in close proximity to other days students have off from school (i.e. holiday breaks, conferences, etc.).
The changes for 2016-17 include removing early release dates for elementary and middle school students on:
Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016;
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017;
Tuesday, April 4, 2017; and
Tuesday, May 9, 2017
No other changes were made to the 2016-17 calendar. To view the revised 2016-17 calendar or to subscribe to the district calendar through Microsoft Outlook or your Apple and Android devices, go to www.bluevalleyk12.org/calendar. If you are already subscribed, these calendar changes will update automatically.
Sign up for BV Alerts, Blue Valley’s emergency notification system
It’s time to sign up or update your preferences on Blue Valley’s emergency notification system, BV Alerts. If you have already signed up to receive emergency text messages, there is no need to sign up again. If you are a new subscriber or if you need to update information or preferences, such as your child’s school, go to www.bluevalleyk12.org/bvalerts. Signing up or updating information is quick and simple. Simply follow the instructions to personalize the system to meet your needs.
Text message alerts will only be used to communicate emergency messages from the district and/or schools and closings due to inclement weather. It is important to understand that BV Alerts does not replace current district emergency or school closing communication practices such as email and posting information on the district website. The alert system is merely an additional tool to send urgent information out to the community in a timely manner. If you have any questions regarding BV Alerts, please call 239-4043.
