CYRM & ALNC Library Program

All students and parents are encouraged to participate

California Young Reader Medal Program 2014-2015

Dear AOE community,

This year we are inviting all of our families to participate in the California Young Reader Medal Program. The CYRM program is conducted every year at AOE. This is one of our main reading incentive programs through the library.

Grades K-3 will read the five primary picture books with their parents. We have several copies of each title. You may check out these books with a one week loan period.

I've contacted our city children's library staff so they are aware of our program. These books are also available at the city branches. Once all five books are read, have your student come see me and I will add them to our special assembly. Your student will bring home a bookmark for you to sign and return to the library.

Grades 4 & 5 will read all three intermediate chapter books along with the three picture books for older readers. Students in 4th & 5th that read all six books must take the Scholastic RC quiz. They also will receive a bookmark, which is their invitation to the special assembly in April.

ALNC is our sponsor

The Assistance league promotes the love of reading to our students here at AOE.

Each year I provide a different program which encourages our students to read. From Caldecott and Newbery titles to a poetry bingo card game, I am always trying to envision new ways to entice children to read. The ALNC provides a "SPECIAL" red T-shirt to the first 50 participants.

The students from past years still wear their shirts with pride.

All students will receive free books!

This program ends April 3rd, 2015. Our assembly will be April 17th at 8:30 AM in our multi-purpose room.

Our liaison will provide the shirts and books soon, so let's get started...

Happy New Year,

Mrs. Oshima
