ALB First Friday Newsletter

Hello, October!

As we begin our third month of school, we want to reflect on the wonderful things that have been happening at Burruss this year. In September, we camped out, we conducted parent-teacher conferences, and we enjoyed a week-long Fall Break. Teachers are using the workshop model to teach reading and math, and are embedding science, social studies, and language arts into transdisciplinary studies. Teachers have completed their first IB transdisciplinary unit, and have begun the next transdisciplinary thematic unit, which varies by grade level. We submitted our application for IB authorization as a PYP school, and we will welcome site visitors for our evaluation in the Spring.

October is traditionally an intense month for students and teachers. We are in the middle of the semester, the long break is over, and we are a few weeks away from the holidays. It is a time to really focus on learning and growing now that the "newness" is out of the way. We are excited to see what this month brings!

Remember--no school for students on Monday, October 10!

Report cards are published in Aspen on October 20!

Red Ribbon Week is October 23-28! Look for flyers detailing the daily themes of the week!

Other fun events are detailed below.

We are honored to be your school leaders. Please never hesitate to reach out to us with concerns, questions, or just to say hi!

Kind regards,

Julie & Jillian

Student Perception Survey

Most of you completed a parent perception survey (linked above) sometime over the last two weeks. We will next survey teachers and students during the week of October 24-28. Letters will go home in Burruss Express on October 13 with a form that you will return ONLY if you want your child to opt out of taking the survey. You may come by the front office anytime after October 13 to review the questions asked of the students. Opt out forms are due October 20.

Annual Title 1 Parent Meeting

Please join us in supporting our students at Burruss Elementary by attending this year’s Annual Title 1 Meeting on Thursday, October 13 at 5:00 pm in the Media Center. As a Title 1 school, Burruss Elementary receives federal funding that supports instruction and student achievement. During this meeting we will be discussing our Title 1 goals, status, and budget. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Changes in Transportation/Early Dismissal

When changing the transportation plan for how your child goes home, please send in a note in the morning to the child's teacher. If you must change the transportation plan during the school day, please call the front office instead of emailing the teacher directly. Teachers cannot guarantee the opportunity to check email prior to the end of the day. Changes may not be made after 2:30pm.
