WOLVES WIN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
The #1 ranked Chandler Wolves defeated the Saguaro Sabercats 42-35 to win the inaugural Open Division State Championships on Saturday. This is the Wolves’ fourth straight championship and fifth in six years. Thanks to AF JROTC, Band, and Spiritline for participating in the big event, and thanks to all of the fans who made it out to ASU to cheer the Wolves on to this historic victory!
CTE PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLAR NOMINEE
Juliette Covitz has been selected as one of the five Arizona nominees for the 2019-2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars in Career and Technical Education. Juliette was selected by a review team consisting of CTE Stakeholders based on evidence of academic rigor, technical competence, professional employability skills, and ingenuity and creativity. Congratulations, Juliette!
FRIDAY SPIRIT
Last Friday was a spirit-filled day. It started at 7:00am with a live news feed on channel 3 to get the hype going for Saturday’s championship game. Then CHS kicked off Winter Sports and Winter Week during two fun assemblies jam-packed with team introductions, performances, and the unveiling of Code Blue’s curtain of distraction to be used during basketball games. Lunchtime activities included music, dancing, and freebies. Thanks to StuCo for hosting the assemblies and lunchtime activities!
WRESTLING NEWS
Please congratulate the CHS Wrestling Team for their 3rd place team finish at the Liberty Classic Wrestling Tournament. Nathan Bigelow, Zach Espalin, Nathaniel Deasey took 1st place (pictured); Dalton Loyden took 3rd; Stefana Jelacic took 5th; and Jovan Ravago took 6th. Zach Espalin was also named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.
SYMPHONIC BAND
Congratulations to CHS’s Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mr. Carlos Aguero, for earning Superior with Distinction during this weekend’s ABODA Fall Concert Band Festival!
INTERMEDIATE/BEGINNING DANCE CONCERT
Last week’s dance concerts featured CHS Intermediate and Beginning Dance students performing a number of their own choreographed numbers. This week, the dancers, directed by Ms. Kathie Buren and Ms.Tiffany White, will perform for elementary students in the CCA. Great job, dancers!

AVID PJ DONATION
Through the combined efforts of Chandler, Basha, and Hamilton AVID programs, we were able to collect over 70 pairs of PJ's and various gifts for children in foster care. Great work, AVID!

2020 MAYOR’S TEEN LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
The 2020 Mayor's Teen Leadership Academy applications are now open. You can apply by visiting the Mayor's Teen Leadership website. The class will run March 16-20, 2020 from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
The Teen Leadership Academy is a free, five-day program held during the spring school intersession that teaches participants about the inner-workings of municipal government, from the Mayor and Council office to every department in the City.
Applications close December 13, 2019.
TAX CREDIT DONATIONS
Arizona law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per calendar year if filing status is Married, filing Joint Return; $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is Single or Head of Household; and, $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is Married filing separate return — for contributions that fund extracurricular activities in public schools. A tax credit is a full refund, not a deduction.
Contributions eligible for a tax credit are donated directly to schools, not to the state or the school district. To participate, follow the links listed above to donate online or you can print a form to complete and submit your contribution.

IB DEC. 11TH DINE OUT EVENT
YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAININGS
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (included ADHD), and eating disorders.
