Superintendent's Update - 6.3.2022
Dear CPS Community,
The final countdown is underway – we have only two weeks of school left before our summer break. The days and nights are packed with incredible events and recognitions to celebrate the work of our students this school year. It has been refreshing to see our students participating in traditional yearend activities after two years of restricted events. One of the larger events of the year is high school graduation; I am pleased to be participating in the 105th commencement of Chelmsford High School’s Class of 2022 tomorrow, Saturday, June 4th at 4:00 p.m. at the Tsongas Center in Lowell. Our graduating seniors worked extremely hard over the past four years and were able to hold in-person traditional senior events such as prom, the senior barbeque, and awards nights leading up to this final event. If you are interested in watching graduation, it will be live-streamed by Chelmsford Telemedia. Please see the details and link to view the ceremony below.
June is recognized as PRIDE month to support equal justice and opportunities for LGBTQ+ Individuals. This recognition dates to June 1969 from the uprising and resistance to the harassment and persecution of LGBTQ+ Americans who were subjected to discriminatory laws and practices at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. The Chelmsford Public Schools (CPS) continues to recognize and promote the importance of equality, freedom of choice, fostering of acceptance, and the prevention of bullying and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender in our schools. CPS is committed to ensuring equality and inclusion of all community members in our school community.
Last week, I wrote about the work the district is performing to create a new strategic plan. Next Wednesday, June 8th, I would like to remind you that there will be three sessions for interested community members to join and hear about the work that has been completed and provide input prior to the creation of a final plan. Additionally, our consultants from DMGroup will be presenting at the June 7th School Committee meeting. Having a new strategic plan will allow us to set a course for the district after some incredibly taxing years with the pandemic and all the changes to schooling. I look forward to having a focused plan in place to help guide the district’s future in post-pandemic times. If you would like to learn more about the strategic planning work, please watch the presentation at our school committee meeting Tuesday evening or join us for one of the sessions (virtual and in-person) on Wednesday, June 8th to be part of the process. Information on session times and how to participate is below.
Congratulations to the CHS Class of 2022! I look forward to the graduation ceremony tomorrow. Enjoy this week’s highlights from our schools and have a wonderful weekend.
Yours truly,
Jay Lang, Ed.D.
