New Lunch Menu Options
The teachers were asked to pass on the following information from our cafeteria:
As a school, we are trying to give the kids a few more healthy options. With that in mind, we are making some changes in the lunchroom starting next month. Everyday we will have the regular lunch menu but the kids will be allowed to substitute fresh veggies (carrots, celery or broccoli) or fresh fruit (apples, oranges and bananas) for any of the 3 sides. Please let your kids know that they will be allowed to do this.
In addition, there is a bowl of fresh fruits available daily for any student who would like to purchase one. It is located next to the cashier.
Watch D.O.G. Training
Mr. Andy Coats has scheduled another Watch D.O.G.S. training for Tuesday, February 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The training will be held in the elementary music room. ,
From 6:00 to 6:30, Mr. Coats will provide orientation training for those who have recently signed up for the Watch D.O.G.S. program and for those who may want more info before registering. Most of you will not need to attend these first 30 minutes. From 6:30 to 8:00, Mr. Coats will go over security issues/training for all watchdogs. We will go over school emergency response and evacuation procedures as they pertain to tornado, fire, and active shooter situations.
This is a dad/father figure only event so child care will not be provided. If you plan to attend, please RSVP by emailing wdogs@sca-kc.org
Reenrollment
SCA Reenrollment for 2016-17 - Don't miss the reenrollment discount!
It's hard to believe it is that time of year again! January 19 is the first day of reenrollment for current families. A letter and instructions were sent home on January 15 in your student's backpack and reenrollment can be completed online again this year. We are already receiving many inquiry calls for the 2016-17 school year and have already received several completed applications from new families. New families from covenant churches can enroll starting on February 16 and open enrollment begins on March 1, so we encourage you to enroll early. Families reenrolling by March 1 will receive a discount on the enrollment fee.
If you have any questions, contact Metra Augustin at 816-525-1480.

Bible
“No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”
Luke 16: 13
Test: Friday, February 5th
BMV Questions
1. Why can we not have more than one master? A master has control over something or someone by definition. Just like a car can only be controlled by one steering wheel, so a person can only be controlled by one master.
2. Is money bad? Money is a gift from God and a tool. If used correctly it can be very good, but if used poorly it can harm us greatly.

ACSI Speech Competition
Third grade students at SCA participate in the ACSI Speech Competition every year. Each student will memorize a Bible passage, poem, or folktale/fable in the coming month. This will be their poem grade for the month, and everyone will participate by reciting their speech in class on Feb. 26th. We will then have a grade level completion after school on Feb. 29th for any students who are interested in the school-wide competition. Three students from each category will qualify for the next level of competition and will help represent the third grade of SCA at the ACSI Speech Competition in April.
Students who have chosen to recite a Bible passage must also be able to give a short explanation of what the passage means to them. It should be something short, but also well thought through. I would suggest having them write a couple of sentences at the end of their Bible passage to memorize.
If you have any questions, please e-mail your teacher.
