Dear Families...
To know God and make Him known
It's Practicum Time!!!
Dear Families,
I am so glad you will be joining us for our Classical Conversations’ Parent Practicum in Waco, June 6-8. It is going to be an educational and practical three days. I have lots of information to share with you so you feel prepared for the practicum. Please pay careful attention to the details throughout.
We are excited to have Krystal Cano as our speaker. Daniel is a native of Los Angeles, California (“he wasn’t born in Texas, but got there as soon as he could”), the husband of Vicki, the father of Landry, a passionate educator for many years, and a die-hard fan of Real Madrid CF. His wife Vicki formerly served for three years as the Foundations/Essentials Director in Reseda, California and their family has used Classical Conversations since Landry was five. Daniel was recently stepped into the role of the Challenge I director for Great Hills, Austin.
We have practical afternoon sessions planned, taking our parents through the Lost Tools of Writing. Our contracted tutors will undergo special training in the Foundations, and Essentials tutor training sessions. Everyone will have something to take away at the end of the three days.
Location: We will be meeting at Trinity Lutheran Church, which is home to our west CC community. This community strives to honor the church building and staff. Let us show our gratitude to the church for the use of its facility by being respectful. Please help keep the building clean, do not allow your children to run in the hallways, and be polite and thankful to any church members you see. Parents, it is imperative that you watch your children always - they are your responsibility and must be by your side at all times.
Arrival: The parking lot surrounds the church. If you are facing the church from the HWY, you need to park to the left. You will notice signs. Registration begins each day at 8:30 am in the foyer at the entrance. You will need to get checked in and get a name-tag. You will also check in your students, sign waiver form, name-tags, and check for camp supplies.
The Practicum will begin promptly at 9 a.m., and conclude at 4 p.m. each day, so please allow at least 15 minutes for registration, and more the first day. You will also need to sign in each consecutive day. Don’t forget to get your name-tags! This is helpful for the teachers, volunteers, speakers and for each other.
Afternoon Training: We will have a tutor training for Foundations and Essentials. If you have not received an email yet from our trainers, Courtney Robinson and Janie Groth, you should soon!
Refreshments: There will be pitchers of water and cups around for your refreshment. Don’t forget to bring a snack for yourself and your students! A granola bar or piece of fruit can keep you nourished until lunch!
Lunch: You have two options for lunch. First, you may bring your own lunch and eat on-site in the gym or outside by the playground. Second, you may venture out to nearby restaurants for lunch. There is a Sonic and Bushes nearby. We will have a flier with a map and a restaurant guide to assist you. Please be prompt in picking up your children from their camps so that the helpers can eat their lunch. Please keep your children close to you during the lunch hour; they should not leave your side.
Bookstore: The Bookstore will be open from 8:30 – 4:30 each day of the Practicum. Whitney Robinson will have plenty of Foundations, Essentials, and Challenge materials out and available for purchase. If you are registered for Classical Conversations in the fall, and have not yet purchased your materials, this is a great opportunity to get them and not have to pay shipping. Many good classical books will also be available for purchase, as well.
Kid’s Camps: For each child in camp, you will need to provide a signed copy of the risk waiver at registration, which is located in the ePacket you received with your confirmation email. When you fill out the waiver, please make a note on the top which class you will be in during the afternoon (Main afternoon session, Foundations Tutor training, Essentials Tutor training.)
