In the month of November, the Keller community collected general household/toiletries for the Adopt a Family Program which is run by Community Housing Network. Mrs. Hendren, who works for the Community Housing Network, took our items and delivered them. They are being distributed, in early December, to formerly homeless families and are helping them get a great new start. Our Keller kids, made posters, collected items from classrooms, organized the supplies and helped to load them.
At our last meeting, we brainstormed how we might run the Valentine's project and we were going to bring our ideas to BFC to see if the committee and you approved the proposal. This was a way for the students to realize there is a chain of command when changes or new ideas need to be implemented. The proceeds earned would, again, be donated to the Youth Assistance Bowling on behalf of Keller and Valentine's would be made for the Beaumont Children's Hospital patient party.
We also discussed Penny Wars vs. a new fundraising idea. The kids love Penny Wars; however, we talked about how the total collected last year was down and we tried to think of ways to bring in more money for Cystic Fibrosis. The walk will be great. . . . new territory; so, I know we will be in lots of contact with you about this one!!!!
We leave the spring agenda available to help the 5th graders if they need any additional help with projects. This year, I want to be able to include the children more with the process of planning the events. Now that we have a few "traditions," it is easier to have the kids help.
That is it for now. I am sure the Student Council kids might be pretty handy when the official I.B. visit rolls around. . . what great ambassadors!!!!!
