Community Foundation of the Ozarks Grant Awarded to LRP!
Mrs. Bass wrote and received a grant for $2,500 to purchase materials for the LRP Makerspace classroom. The Makerspace room is an innovative space in the building for students to come, create and be inspired. In this space they are able to build new things and work on future inventions! In order to do this, there must be materials available for building and exploration. Mrs. Rumker has been instrumental in developing this program in the building. Hosting a Makerspace requires a lot of essential start-up supplies, and then there is an on-going need to add additional equipment to this classroom in order to fully involve all children. Money from the CFO grant will be used to purchase items such as snap circuits, gears, marble runs and Osmo Genius kits.
Tech Talks
We have had two "Tech Talks" in our building this year. One was held after school on December 2, and the most recent was held on January 13. Melanie Riley has coordinated these discussions, and she led the first Tech Talk on the topic "Google Basics: How to Share Files". Our teachers do a great job of collaborating and sharing resources with one another, and by using Google Drive they can do this more easily. Sara Boyts led the conversation in January. She discussed how the kindergarten teachers currently utilize Google Drive as a progress monitoring system that stores and organizes their skills' checklist. They recognize how this can be such an efficient way to track student data.
These Tech Talks are a great way for our teachers to enhance their technology skills while gaining professional development hours at the same time. The format of these sessions is not a presentation by one expert teacher, but rather a conversation being led by one teacher who is willing to facilitate that conversation. In the past few years we have found Tech Talks to be very popular in our building!
In January we will also begin hosting "Technology Lunch and Learn" sessions with Brandon Kovach. Twice each month Mr. Kovach will come to provide conversation, education and insight to help us develop our technology vision for this building.
