Counselor's Corner
Thank you for getting all the registration forms to us along with the Grandfathering letters. We appreciate your help in this process. Now on to helping the 6th graders register for 7th grade!
Literacy
Vocabulary on the announcements has been more social-emotional focused; however, we'd like to make a shift in the future. Two new things will be happening with vocabulary on the announcements:
1. We would like to include common academic vocabulary. The word "convey" is an example of the type of language we would like to add in. It can be used in all subject areas and can be found on those lovely state assessments as well. If you have any suggestions for these words, please add them here.
2. Eventually, the goal is to have students themselves add words to the announcements. I feel that in order to do this with effectiveness and fidelity, we will need to add some new elements and build excitement. More on that to come soon!
SPED
Please be mindful of due dates when completing PLAAFP information. Please help us remain in compliance and complete the present level questionnaire on or prior to the due date. We don't like to hunt you down for information...but we will! :)
Thanks for your help!

Keep it up! Go Wildcats!!!
Gifted and Talented
Each staff member needs to write their own reflection to reflect their growth as a questioner, as well as students' growth. Please print out your form and put it in my box. A GT paper file is kept for every teacher.

AVID
On February 2, 2017, we are hosting visitors all day to share our AVID schoolwide culture. At this time, we have roughly 30 people signed up to visit.

Behavior Tip of the Week: Disruptive Behavior
Respond consistently to disruptive behavior
Use reinforcement to encourage appropriate behavior
Ensure a 3:1 ratio of positive to negative attention
Attention is often a motivating force for some of our more disruptive students. The more we have positive interactions with the student, the more likely we are to break the disruptive behavior. Not sure if you're meeting the ratio? Keep a sticky on the back of your ID and tally + & - for each interaction. Greeting the student at the door is a +. Re-directing the student for something disruptive is a -. You might be surprised at imbalanced your positive to negative ratio is at the end of the day. Try it!
Increase the frequency of you visual supervision in the portion of the room where the student is spending time
Using proximity is a great way to prompt more appropriate behaviors. A lot is accomplished by simply standing close to a student without saying a word.
