Da da da da..Introducing Nonfiction!
This week the kindergarteners and I were so busy! First we met for story time where we giggled and talked about a bunch of peas that did all kinds of funny things from A-Z! We were reading the book LMNO Peas by Keith Baker. This book has wonderful illustrations of our favorite vegetable (ok that might be a stretch but I do love them and they go great with cheesy potatoes) along side each letter of the alphabet. They might be acrobats or dancers, officers or teachers. The students particularly loved the page with the letter U as all of the peas were diving down into the water that filled the U in an underwater adventure.
After that we talked about using shelf markers and we are calling them our buddies so that we remember to keep them with us not left all alone on a shelf!
Phew! No wonder I'm so tired there's even more we did! We walked over to the nonfiction area and we talked about what fiction and nonfiction means and they got to see all the books we have on just about every topic you can imagine. The kindergarteners were very excited to find books about animals and cars, dinosaurs and sports!
Once they picked out their books and checked out they were able to choose a center to work at. Some chose to write or illustrate, some worked with white boards, some did a floor puzzle and others chose to enjoy their books.
It is so much fun to work with your children and I hope they enjoy visiting the library!
Let me know if you ever have any questions or if you would like to volunteer.
