What is a Supernova?

A Supernova is an explosion of a star. A Supernova is one of the most violent events imaginable in space. A supernova will outshine 100 billion stars

Thermonuclear Supernovae

A Thermonuclear supernova only happens in a binary star. A Binary star is when one stars orbits around another. Space's gravitational pull pulls the two stars together. When the white dwarf gets a mass of 1.4 times that of the sun, Atomic Nuclei (fuse) happens. Atomic Nuclei will start to begin and after a couple of minutes the stars will explode.

Core- Collapse Supernovae

Core- Collapse supernova's begin when stars that are 8 to 11 times the mass of the sun runs out of fuel. After the fuel runs out the core of the stars iron will build up by the fusion process will collapse. The collapses will release a lot of energy as Neutrinos. Neutrinos are particles that are produced from decayed radioactive elements. Collapses may also turn into Electromagnetic Radiation.

Result of Supernovae

People have been wondering what really happens at the end of a Supernova. First, the star can't support it's own mass which causes the iron core to collapse. Next, the contracting core of the star leaves the star after the explosion of the supernova. Lastly, the outer layers are blown off in the explosion and are no longer there. The supernova could also outshine the whole galaxy.
