March 2019

Principal's Message

Spring is here and the second semester is moving full speed ahead! The third marking period will be wrapping up in a few weeks (April 9th) as we head towards the end of the year.

Spring sports are in full swing as the regular season opens the first week of April. As the weather improves come out an enjoy a ball game with our boys and girls!

The Spring musical will open the first weekend in April. Our Performing Arts students will be performing Cinderella this year. Show times are listed on the school web page.

Please be sure to view the Vaping & Juuling video below as this is becoming more popular with teenage students. Schools across the country are fighting this battle as teenage students are falling into this dangerous trap.

March and April are very busy months ahead with several activities. As we head towards spring break, remember to visit the BCIT Medford calendar on our main page for all upcoming events.

Course Selections for the 2019-20 school year will begin soon. Please review your son or daughter’s courses for next year and contact their counselor with any questions. In most situations, counselors suggest that students go for the challenge, but do not overwhelm themselves to the point where coursework suffers, and they are unable to maintain satisfactory grades. So, plan ahead. When it comes to academics, create a tentative sequence of courses that will develop breadth and depth over one's time in high school. At the same time, determine whether the schedule of courses for the coming school year considers all the different expectations of time; including class and co‐curricular demands, voluntary service, sports and work expectations.
FAFSA In order to apply for financial aid, most colleges and universities require the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) which should be submitted early as possible. Since each college has a different deadline for financial aid, you are encouraged to submit our form online for more rapid response. If you do not have all your information available, you can estimate your income based on last year’s figures and update your submission when the form is returned to you for verification. The website is https://fafsa.ed.gov/.

PARCC TESTING All students who are currently enrolled in English I, English II, or English III will take the Proficiency Based Assessment in English Language Arts. All students who are currently enrolled in Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II will take the PBA (Performance‐based Assessment) in Mathematics. Students will begin testing in the April. Please check the BCIT Medford website for testing dates.
