Homecoming Parade
October is Bullying Prevention Month
Every October, schools and organizations across the country join STOMP Out Bullying™ in observing National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal is to encourage communities to work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying. We would like to increase awareness of the prevalence of bullying and the impact it has on children of all ages.
Join us for the 10th Annual Blue Shirt Day® World Day of Bullying Prevention™. On Monday, October 2nd, we invite everyone to GO BLUE and Wear a BLUE SHIRT.
JLC Sponsored Spirit Week
In honor of Homecoming week, the Junior Leadership Council of C.F. Holliday has decided to conduct a very fun spirit week. See below for the details on what to wear:
Monday - Go Blue! (wear a blue shirt)
Tuesday - Girls Wear Red and Boys Wear Black Day
Wednesday - Twin Day
Thursday - Pirate Pride Day
Friday - Pink Day
Attendance Matters
The state of Ohio passed House Bill 410, regarding absenteeism in schools. This has caused West Carrollton to change/update our attendance policies. Information on this can be found on the district website, and in the handbook. However, we understand that the change can cause confusion. Please read part two of our three-part attendance fact "cheat sheet"!
Fact #2
Habitual Truant
If your student is absent for 30 or more consecutive hours, 42 or more in one school month, or 72 or more hours in a school year, without a legitimate excuse, the student will meet the definition of “habitual truant”. This will require the student to be assigned to an absence intervention team. The student and the parent/guardian will be required to participate in the intervention plan. Failure to participate will result in immediate filing for truancy and investigation into whether such failure triggers our mandatory duty to report child abuse or neglect.
Holliday PTO Corner
We are excited that the car decals for those parents that upgraded their PTO membership to the Platinum level have come in. Look for those to go home early this week. We are hoping the bracelets come in this week as well, but we will keep you posted on their delivery progress. Thank you for your patience and for supporting our school's PTO!
Holliday Spirit Wear is expected to be here this week. We will get it home with students hopefully by Thursday so that the shirts can be worn for the parade. Thank you for your pride in our school!

Adopt-a-Plant Bed
Victor and Lilliana and their dad came to school over the weekend and pulled weeds as part of the "Adopt-a-Plant Bed Program ". They could really tell the difference it made to the outside of C.F. Holliday. They signed up for another turn.
What is the Adopt-A-Plant Bed program?
The Adopt-a-Plant Bed program is a volunteer based activity where students and their families volunteer to "adopt" designated plant beds in front of C.F. Holliday. The student's name will be posted on a special plant bed marker thanking them for keeping C. F. Holliday beautiful. It will be removed when the two week period is complete.
Volunteer Responsibilities
* Remove and dispose of litter and weeds
* Provide own hand tools for area maintenance
* Notify principal or secretary of the school of any problems or concerns
* Visit the site frequently to ensure good health of plant material
Please let us know if you are interested in adopting a plant bed!
Bookfair Help Needed
Mrs. Messer is in need of daytime volunteers to help with our Scholastic Book Fair during the week of October 16th - 20th.
Please contact her via email at tmesser@wcsd.k12.oh.us or call the school to volunteer your time. Thank you!

Fifth Grade Scientists or Fifth Grade Authors?
Both! Mr. Lahmon's 5th grade science class created ecosystem picture books in class. This was a different way for the students to learn about science. Many of the kids were very creative and had lots of fun learning while using their minds, muscles and imaginations. How creative!
