Dental Health Month
We learned about the importance of taking care of our teeth and eating foods that are healthy for our teeth.
Soda vs Water
We used hard boiled eggs to represent the enamel on our teeth and soaked one egg in soda (diet coke-- my weakness) and water. We let it sit for 24 hours and the children made predictions as to what would happen to the shell.
The Reveal...
Many students predicted that the soda egg would turn brown and may even get a little soft. They were right. To prove how important it is to brush your teeth, we used a toothbrush and toothpaste and brushed the soda egg. The students were shocked to see how clean the egg could get. Hopefully, they will see how clean their teeth can get.
Writing
After reading about the different types of animal teeth, we decided to write and make a craft about the kind of animal teeth we would want and why. There were lots of vampire bat teeth chosen....
Math
We started a new unit on Place Value. We are in mini place-value boot camp this week!
Sorting
Each table had a bucket of manipulative to sort and label in groups of 10. Then students counted up by 10's the amount they had at their table.
Sorting
Making groups of 10 to get ready for place value. What do you do with the left overs????
I Don't Know, But I've Been Told...
Tens are tall and ones are small....
so the number in the picture is 43!
Top Dog
Giselle is our Top Dog. Her favorite animal is a fox ( of course) and a jellyfish. She loves to eat ice cream and is pawsome at gymnastics and ice skating. When she grows up she wants to be a dentist, firefighter and a mom.
Doggy Bag
1. Conferences-please sign up if you haven't already.
2. Valentine's Day. Children will be able to pass out their valentine cards on Tuesday.
3. Your child is allowed to bring in headphones or earbuds for our chromes.
We need your child to bring in an empty cereal box that is his or her favorite. We will be writing and making a commercial as to why that cereal is the best! We need them by next week. Thanks!
My Kids...
My son flew in from California to audition for the Voice here in Chicago...didn't make the cut but had a great visit with him.
Earl....
...a little jealous that my son got all the attention when he was home...He can stop pouting now.
