A Message From Our Principal
Hello Mesa Families!
It is hard to believe that we are already into spring and looking down the road at the end of this school year!
During the month of April we celebrate the ‘Month of the Military Child’. We are excited to celebrate all of our military families! Information will be coming home regarding dress-up days and special events happening the week of April 12th. We are excited to celebrate the wealth of experiences held by our military kids and their families.
On Friday, April 2nd, a letter with information on Mesa’s academic, behavioral, and safety data will be sent out to all families. Please be on the lookout for this information (in REMIND) and let us know if you have any questions regarding the information presented.
In a typical year, our 3rd-5th grade students would be participating in state testing throughout the month of April. The state waiver for testing to be reduced for this year has been approved. This means our 3rd-5th grade students will participate in only one content area for testing (instead of reading AND math as well as science in 5th grade). This waiver has also extended the testing deadline through May. This year, our 3rd-5th graders will test in May instead of April. Please watch for more information from Mrs. Warren regarding our testing schedule, dress-up days, and celebrations during testing.
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your son/daughter’s education this year. If you have questions, concerns or great ideas, please reach out to let us know.

Classroom Updates
Wow! We can’t believe it is already April. It has been amazing watching all the kids grow into independent learners. With report cards coming home next week, we wanted to remind you that Kindergarten grades based on our standards. We grade on end of the year expectations. If there is an area you are concerned about, please reach out to your student’s teacher.
We are also planning many fun activities to continue to keep your student engaged during the last quarter of kindergarten. We will continue to prepare the kids to be ready for first grade.
During the month of April in fifth-grade, we will be talking about the future. More specifically we will be looking into student interests for the future and what they will need to be successful. We will be talking about skills needed to get and keep a job. Students will discover that these skills are helpful in all areas of life. After discussing skills students will be exploring jobs that they may be interested in, as well as pathways they can take to get to those jobs.
In reading this month, we will be reviewing poetry as well as expository text and historical fiction. Additionally, in grammar our learning will center around homophones, independent and dependent clauses, and complex sentences.
Math will focus on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. In science, we will continue learning about changes in matter. Finally, in history we will study the causes of the American Revolution.
