>>The Board met as a Committee of the Whole on 3/6/18 to receive an update on budget planning for the 2018-19 school year.
>>The Board will receive updated budget information at the Business Committee meeting on March 12, 4:30PM at Historic Old Central High School, 2nd Floor Board Room. This is a public meeting and a good opportunity to hear discussion regarding the budget.
Deans List Semi-Finalist Award for Denfeld Robotics Build Team Captain
Kaleb Robison, a junior at Denfeld High School and the build team captain of the Denfeld Nation Automation FIRST Robotics Team 4009, was selected as a Dean’s List semi-finalist at the Great Northern Robotics Competition in Grand Forks, ND.
He's now eligible to participate at the World Championships to be held in Detroit, MI in April.
This prestigious award recognizes Kaleb as a student leader who leads his FIRST Robotics team and community to increased awareness for FIRST and its mission while achieving personal technical expertise and accomplishment.Photo: Coach Andrew Gunderson and Kaleb Robison
Denfeld, Duluth East Head to Double DECCer Regional Robotics Competition March 8 - 10
Over one-hundred robotics teams are gathering at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center this weekend for one of the largest regionals under one roof!
Our own Duluth East Daredevils and Denfeld DNA are among those competing, along with teams from Wisconsin, North Dakota, Minnesota, and one from Sweden.
In the arena, alliances of three will battle in the 2018 “POWER UP” Challenge, which plays off a retro-style arcade game.
The event runs for three days:
Thursday March 8, practice rounds start at 12:00pm and go to 6:00pm.
On Friday and Saturday matches go from 9:00am to 6:30pm. Final playoffs matches begin at 1:30pm and run to 4:30pm on Saturday with an awards ceremony to follow.

Lincoln Park, Ordean East Success at Regional History Day Competition

Lincoln Park Students Help Children in Hospitals
Students from Lincoln Park Middle School made felted lanterns from sheep's wool and donated them to local hospitals for children who need to stay overnight for a period of time. The lanterns were created to help kids feel more at home at the hospital
Duluth Student Artwork Featured at Local Gallery
Artists from Lincoln Park, the Area Learning Center, Ordean East, Congdon, Duluth East, Denfeld, Piedmont, Homecroft and Lester Park participated in the Twin Ports Youth Art Exhibit at the Kruk Gallery on UWS's campus. Artworks were displayed from January 25 to February 28. Thank you, Alexandra Breilein, for the photos and info.Thanks for the Visit!

Student Artwork Displayed at Blush Gallery
ALC artists have their own exhibit, Room 115, at the Blush gallery and venue. Room 115 has been the backdrop to local rock shows and poetry readings, while also giving ALC artists recognition for their creativity and visual voice. The exhibit shows until March 9. Denfeld Deli and Intro to Cooking students discussed how to practice "we over me" and suggested donating food from their lessons to the school's Hunter Hut. Over the course of the year, they've provided schoolmates in need with 92 salads, 21 parfaits, 2 dozen cookies, 48 cups of soup, 66 wraps and 44 pasta salads.

Fences is one of August Wilson’s 10-play “Century Cycle” about the 20th century African-American experience dealing with universal human and specific black cultural issues & themes. The play opened on Broadway in 1986 and won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Drama plus The Tony Award & Drama Desk Award for Best/Outstanding Play. The 2016 movie starred Denzel Washington & Viola Davis, who received the Academy Award for Best Actress.
