PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - DONNA BURKE
Hello everyone,
I cannot believe the 1st nine weeks is over! Report cards were given to the students on Monday, October 18th during Homeroom. Hopefully you have seen the grades by now. Overall, the grades were good, but of course we all have room to grow. We do not want our students to compare grades and standardized scores with their peers, but instead, set individual growth goals for themselves. We plan to work on individual goals with our students at school in a few weeks.
We had a lot of activities going on in the fall, and of course we have more coming up soon. The play is coming up as well as basketball, wrestling and indoor track. We hope all of our students find something to join here at Bumpus. Check out the website for more information.
In an effort to communicate better with parents & guardians, we have created the
RFBMS Parent/Guardian Guide . We have included information on how to navigate Google Classroom and Powerschool. In addItion, there is information about many of the programs we use at Bumpus such at Clever, Myon, Kami, Nearpod, Flipgrid and more. Also, we have included information about MySchool Fees, GoFan and the new way to pay for food in the cafeteria called MySchoolBucks. Hopefully having all of this information in one place will help as we navigate through middle school together.
Last but not least, we have had a lot of items dropped off at the office for students to pick up. On Monday alone we had close to 30 items dropped off. We know students will forget items here and there, but we are working to teach all of our students to become more independent and responsible. Hopefully they will continue to grow in this area. :)
Thank you for your continued support and GO BUCS!

NEWS FROM MRS. SCHMITH, SCHOOL NURSE
If your child has ANY symptoms of illness, please keep him/her at home until you can determine the cause of the symptoms. If your child has symptoms and they have been tested for COVID-19, they must remain home until the COVID-19 test results are reported to you. Per the ADPH Back to School Guidance, if your child has symptoms and has a negative covid test result, the child should stay home for 10 days UNLESS a healthcare provider issues an alternate diagnosis. We don't need to know the specific diagnosis but we need to know there is a diagnosis other than COVID-19 to explain the symptoms. When students report to school with symptoms of illness and subsequently test positive for COVID-19, they have exposed countless others, creating multiple close contact individuals and additional COVID positive cases. Please refer to the ADPH Back to School Guidance pages numbered 13 and 15, or your personal Healthcare Professional if you have questions. https://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/covid19/assets/cov-school-guidance-073021.pdf

Remember, a parent excuse should include the following information:

Grade
Dates & reason of absence(s)
Handwritten Parent Signature
ANTICIPATED ABSENCE FORMS - If it is necessary for your student to be gone from school they must complete an Anticipated Absence Form and turn it in at least 3 days before the absence. Forms are also available in the 2nd floor office. There is a section on the form to be completed and signed by the parent, then the student fills in his schedule and obtains the signatures of his teachers, and submits it to the grade level administrator for final approval. Approval is based on the student's grade averages and current attendance record. Please note: if the student only plans to be gone for part of a day, he or she needs to enter the time of checkout, and get the signatures of only the teachers whose classes they will miss. Also, there is no need to obtain signatures from virtual teachers, (although they should be notified by email of the absence). Please be aware that failure to complete this form and turn it in will result in loss of credit for work missed and made up.
LUNCH ACCOUNTS
All students will have free breakfast and lunch during the 2021-2022 school year. While breakfast and lunch will be free, à la carte items such as extra snacks and beverages must be purchased. To replenish your child’s lunch account, please visit MySchoolBucks.com or send cash or check with your student to pay in the lunchroom or a secure drop box for lunch payments is located in the Front Lobby.
