Placement Considerations Forms for School Year 2022-2023
It may be hard to believe, but it’s already time for us to begin planning for the 2022-2023 school year! In placing students in classrooms for next year, it is our top priority to ensure that students are distributed equally by classroom for total number of students, gender of students, abilities of students, success of students overall, and personalities of individual students. We strongly encourage parents to allow educators to make the important decision about student placement. Weston teachers, along with the principal, are in the best position to consider all of the variables when determining the best placement for each child. It is educationally advantageous to have professional educators look at teaching and learning, consider all the above factors, and make the best possible placement for each child.
If parents have information they would like to be considered in placing their child, they should make it known using the Placement Consideration Form, which will be available starting May 2, 2022 in the school office. Instructions are included on the form and all forms must be returned no later than May 9, 2022.
Calling all Preschool Students for the 2022-2023 School Year
Now is the time to register your upcoming 3 & 4 year-old children for Preschool for the 2022-2023 school year. Weston Elementary provides several high-quality preschool programs that will suit every family’s needs. Preschool Round-up is on Thursday, April 14, 2022 by appointment only. Please call (810) 724-9453 for more information.
Imlay City Preschool is a tuition-based preschool for children who will be 3 and 4-years-old by September 1, 2022. It runs Monday through Thursday and there are two half day sessions (morning and afternoon session).
Imlay City GSRP (Great Start Readiness Program) is a state funded full-day preschool program for children who meet certain eligibility factors that may put them at educational risk. Every family must first meet the income eligibility to qualify. Once income is verified, additional eligibility factors will be discussed. Children are enrolled into GSRP giving priority to those with the highest eligibility factors. GSRP enrollment is not guaranteed until the Governor releases funds, typically in August. However, it is important to start the application process now. Children must be 4 years old by September 1, 2022 (or December 1, 2022 with a signed waiver, and if spots are available.)
Head Start is a federally funded full-day preschool program for 3 and 4-year-old children. (Children must be 3 by September 1, 2022). Like GSRP, Head Start is based upon income and eligibility factors and enrollment is given to those children with the highest eligibility factors.
Weston Elementary also offers childcare for before and after Preschool and on Fridays.
Please bring the following documents to Preschool Round-up: child’s original birth certificate, updated immunization record or waiver, 2021 taxes or W2’s (and any other proof of income), parent/legal guardian’s driver’s license/state ID, utility bill (as a second proof of residency), and, if applicable, court custody and child support documents.

School Day Hours-Reminder
Spring Math Activities
- Label boxes or bins with place values such as ones, tens, and hundreds. Have kids toss beanbags or balls into the bins and count to see what number they have created. For older students, challenge them to make larger numbers.
- Create a life-size number line with sidewalk chalk. Kids can stand and jump around to practice counting.
- Create a map of your yard or nearby park. You can draw this on graph paper and mark spots where your child can find notes or small prizes. They will feel like real treasure hunters!
- Practice number counting and addition using dice and a list of activities such as spin, jump, blink, clap, etc. Have children roll the dice and add the numbers (or subtract). Match the number with the list of activities and have them complete the activity the number of times shown on the dice.
- Fill and label water balloons numbered 1-20. Draw the numbers on the ground with sidewalk chalk. Have your child choose a balloon, find the matching number, and make a splash!
A few reminders...
- School hours are 8:50 AM through 3:45 PM. No early releases between 3:15-3:45 PM unless prior arrangement is made.
- When your child is absent from school, please notify the office at (810) 724-9812.
- Read the Student Handbook on our school website. All students are responsible for following handbook guidelines.
- Please be sure to have an extra set of clothing in your child’s backpack should he/she have an accident. We try to keep extra clothes in the office should your child need them.
