The Viewpoint
Knock your socks off . . . !
to support World Down Syndrome Awareness Day. On Thursday, 3-21 students are encouraged to wear crazy socks to show support for Down Syndrome (DS). The You Before Me Club is sponsoring a fund raiser to support DS and Lake Orion's Special Olympic program. We are asking students to donate a minimum of 21 cents to this cause. The number 21 is significant as DS people have an extra 21st chromosome. Down Syndrome is the most common chromosomal disorder in the United States and each year 6,000 babies are born with DS.
The following link is a great place to order your crazy socks. John has DS and had the dream to sell socks. His father helped him make this dream come true. https://johnscrazysocks.com/
Positivity Project - Love of Learning
Love of learning means that you master new skills and topics on your own or in school. Those with a love of learning are intrinsically motivated and engaged in a topic regardless of achieving an external standard. They enjoy learning simply for the sake of learning. They don’t need a prize or a high grade as a reward. Their reward is the process of doing the work and improving.
People who love learning experience positive feelings in the process of acquiring skills, building on existing knowledge, or learning something completely new. Over time, individuals with this strength may develop deep and wide knowledge. Their knowledge enables them to make significant contributions to others’ understanding.
Scheduling information
It’s that time of year again . . . The scheduling process for the 2019 - 2020 school year has begun. High school counselors were here Thursday, March 7, 2019 to talk individually to our 8th grade students about their course selections for high school. Mrs. Gaberdiel has traveled to the elementary schools in Lake Orion the last two weeks talking to the current 5th grade students about how incredible Oakview Middle School is. We will have our orientation for incoming 6th grade parents Thursday, March 14, at 6:30pm (so remind your neighbors if they have 5th grade students).
Mrs. Gaberdiel met with our current 7th grade students today and yesterday about their 8th grade schedules and those papers are due back by Friday, March 15, 2019. Please email Nicole.gaberdiel@lok12.org if you have any questions. Mrs. Gaberdiel will meet with our current 6th grade students on Thursday, March 14, 2019 regarding their schedules for 7th grade…those scheduling sheets will be turned in by Thursday, March 21. 2019 and we will start putting together our master schedule of classes here at Oakview.
Again, if you have any questions for the counselor, about scheduling or otherwise, please don’t hesitate to contact her at Nicole.gaberdiel@lok12.org or 248-693-0321.
Good luck to our band
