Mrs. Tara Ali Named WCHE 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year

There may be no greater honor than being recognized by your peers.

We are very pleased to announce that the staff of West Cypress Hills Elementary elected Mrs. Tara Ali as our campus' Teacher of the Year for 2017-2018.

Mrs. Ali currently serves as a 1st grade teacher here at WCH. Although this is her 9th year of teaching, it's her 1st year of teaching at West Cypress (not to mention the years that she so very kindly served as one of our outstanding substitute teachers!)

She lives in our neighborhood with her husband, Karim, and their three children, Emma, Tyler, and Mason. She LOVES teaching and strives to build strong relationships in the community as well as in her classroom. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Congratulations, Mrs. Ali! And, many thanks for all that you do to make West Cypress a great place to be.

Volunteers Needed for STAAR Testing!

We would appreciate your help April 10 and/or April 11 during our STAAR testing. We need monitors at the entrances of restrooms and to escort students to and from the restrooms. Assistant Principal, Melanie Beninga, will provide training.

If interested in helping, please contact Mrs. Beninga by phone at 512-533-7592 or by email, and sign up for the desired time slot here.

As always, we very much appreciate your help.

West Cypress Hills Names Its Mentor and Volunteer of the Year

West Cypress is very fortunate to have wonderful mentors and volunteers who generously donate their time to support our students and staff members. We'd like to call attention to two special people who have been elected by WCHE staff as our Mentor of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

Doris Ernst has been serving as one of our mentors since the school opened, and we are very appreciative of her time and efforts. She holds a special place in the hearts of the Tigers that she's supported. We named Doris Ernst our WCHE Mentor of the Year.

Kelly Kodis volunteers to help WCHE staff members, almost, every day. She helps with special projects, she prepares teaching materials for our teachers, and she offers to and is willing to tackle almost any task. We named Kelly Kodis our WCHE Volunteer of the Year.

Thank you ladies for all that you do for our students and staff!

News from the WCHE PTO

We welcome you to get involved in West Cypress Hills' Elementary activities. Join the PTO today!

Here is the application form and, for your convenience, here is a link to make online payments.

Our PTO does so much to support our students and staff. Please consider joining today! Thank you to all of our parents who contribute your support, donations, time and energy to making WCHE a wonderful place to learn and grow!

Voting for the PTO Treasurer will take place during the PTO General Meeting to be held in the Tiger's Den at 9 am on Wednesday, April 18.

The Lost & Found is Overflowing!

Have you noticed that you have a lot more closet space than you used to have at your house? If so, maybe it's because we have all of your coats and sweaters and hoodies in our Lost & Found.

With the frequent weather changes we've experienced lately, the Lost & Found has exploded with many very nice coats, sweaters, eyeglasses, lunch boxes, and water bottles. Please be sure to check our Lost & Found for your child(ren)'s belongings before April 20. Unclaimed items will be donated to charity if not claimed by April 20. Thanks!

Share the Joy of Students' Artwork!

Information about purchasing your child(ren)'s artwork from Original Works was sent home with students last week. We are very proud of our students, and I'm sure that you'll agree that they've done a wonderful job creating imaginative and decorative artworks.

Their art projects can be converted into fun and cherished gifts for friends and family, and would make great Mother's Day, Father's Day, and, really, any-reason-at-all-day gifts!

The artwork can be viewed at Original Works, and items using student artwork can be purchased from Original Works through Monday, April 9. Proceeds from sales will be used to purchase Art Class supplies and materials. Instructions, your account number, and student code are shown on the material that we sent home with your child(ren).

Happy shopping!
