Bus Safety!
After the evacuation, students created listed various ways to be respectful, responsible, and peaceful on the bus using Padlet. They were able to show what they know/learned about bus expectations!
Our Apollo Ambassadors!
Congratulations to Arya, Brandon, and Olivier for being chosen as Room 204's Apollo Ambassadors!
Field Trip - October 24th!
We will be spending the whole day at the zoo with a tour of various exhibits and a dolphin show! All field trip forms with money are due, Tuesday, October 9th! Meanwhile, if you are interested in helping to chaperone this wonderful experience, please fill out the chaperone form that was sent out this week. The chaperone forms are also due October 9th!
Please be on the lookout for more information regarding our field trip being sent home next week. We look forward to providing our students with a fun and meaningful learning experience!

Halloween
What have we been learning in Room 204?
Reading...
- Students were introduced to, established expectations, and practiced Daily 5 Rotations
- Students have learned and practiced answering explicit and implicit questions with informational and literary text.
- Students have been helping organize our classroom library based on different genres and topics!
- We began Words Their Way.
Writing...
- We completed a Summer Short activity! Students had to write about a fun experience they did over summer break.
- Students learned, "What is a personal narrative?"
- We learned the difference between a seed and watermelon story.
- Students individually brainstormed small moment experiences from their life that they would be interested in writing about.
Math...
- In Eureka Math, we finished Module 1: Place Value and Decimal Fractions.
- We began Module 2: Multi-Digit Whole Number and Decimal Fraction Operations.
Science...
- We continued our first bundle in STEMscopes which is: Matter and Energy Flow in an Ecosystem
- Students have been doing many different activities and explorations to answer the following questions:
Other than for heat, how do animals depend on the Sun?
How do plants keep growing bigger?
Why would an organism eat the waste from another organism?
SEL (Social Emotional Learning)...
- Every classroom at Apollo began the Bully Prevention Curriculum.
- Students have learned the steps for STOP, WALK, TALK!

Join us for Family Fridays! Every Friday, come to Apollo and eat lunch with your child! 5th grade lunch is @ 11:45 - 12:15!

Reading Aloud to Build Comprehension
"Children learn when they make connections between what they read and what they know. One method parents can use to help make these connections during shared reading time is called a Think Aloud."
It's important for families to read together and have meaningful conversations about the book. One way to do this is through various think aloud strategies. Below is a link to some ideas on how you can have worthwhile conversations with your child while reading every night!
