COVID-19 Update
Dear D15 Parents/Guardians:
Thank you for adjusting so well to the distance learning plan we launched on Friday, March 20. We are working hard to make sure students stay engaged in learning during this extended time away from school. Your child’s teacher will be your first point of contact regarding any questions you have or help you may need. I have heard from so many of you that the teachers have already been connecting with their students -- I’m sure your children have enjoyed hearing from them as much as our teachers have enjoyed reconnecting! We are so fortunate to have such dedicated and child-centered educators in D15. Thank you for working with us to launch this digital learning endeavor.
COVID19 AND EXTENDED SCHOOL CLOSURE
As we all know, the situation with COVID-19 remains fluid. The hope was to re-open schools on Tuesday, March 31, however the Governor’s latest address extends the mandated closure through Tuesday, April 7.
I know this news is disappointing, but I am sure it is not surprising as we look across Illinois and the nation. We understand the hardship this is causing a number of our families, and will do our part to ensure learning continues once spring vacation concludes. We also will ensure that students who need to be fed receive breakfast and lunch during this time away from school. Meal deliveries will continue Monday, March 23 - Thursday, March 26, with no meal service on Friday, March 27 of Spring Break and resume on Monday, March 30.
There are still many unknowns about the impact of COVID-19 in our area, but our unwavering promise remains -- we will keep you informed as soon as new information becomes available. In the meantime, please continue to connect with us on Facebook where you’ll find a variety of videos from staff members and other information to keep everyone connected during this time apart.
Much is being asked of each of us, our families and loved ones, and our communities during these extraordinary times. I thank you for your continued trust and words of encouragement, as together we find our way forward each day to meet this unprecedented challenge.
Thank you for your continued partnership. We can and will get through this extraordinary challenge together.
Sincerely,
Laurie Heinz
