Latest Information
Dear Families,
A quick reminder to let you know that in the event of rain or other inclement weather, students are brought in the building in the morning to line up in class groups separated by six feet. The Prek and 2nd grade students come into the gymnasium. The kindergarteners and first graders go in and line up in the cafe and the hallways around the K cluster. For dismissal of students who get picked up by car, we remove the sawhorses and have any Kindergarteners and first graders dismiss to cars in the K circle from the K door and the cafe doors. Our second graders will be dismissed to cars outside the gym doors.
It is my hope that all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. My real hope is that everyone finds joy and happiness in this very unique time where travel is restricted, as are the numbers of people who can gather. Safety is the most important priority.
To that end, the Fuller (my maiden name) family gathering will look very different this year. I am the oldest of five children and each of us has at least two children plus spouses. My father and his sister represent the oldest generation. We are typically a group of 22 (ages 9 months up to 85 years) who spend most of the day eating and cheering on football teams! We eat appetizers, dinner and desserts - a plethora of all!! Everyone brings multiple dishes and we start our day at 9:00 am with a 5K Turkey Trot in my hometown of Delmar, NY. We eat and celebrate being together and then all go to our homes around 9:00 pm. My brother and sister in law host us. This year, she has cleaned out the garage in hopes of setting up a buffet table where each family can come, at designated times to stay under the 10 people maximum, and grab to go plates to take back to their respective homes.
This feels sad. As so much of everything in our Covid world feels hard, frustrating, or sad, we need to prioritize safety. Turkey is not my favorite food by any means, but being with my entire family is the true joy of Thanksgiving for me. Knowing we cannot do that this year, my daughter and I may not even travel to NY and just be hopeful about being able to for Christmas.
I am sure many of you are having these same conversations, debates, and struggles. I am hopeful that with the discussion of vaccines recently there is a light coming at the end of this COVID-19 tunnel. We can get through this together!!
There will be no parent update next week. Please look for my next S'more newsletter on 11/30. Please take good care and stay safe during this time of spiked positive cases.
Best,
Kimberly Kubisch, Principal NES

Holiday Travel
Please be thoughtful and careful when planning holiday travel. It will be necessary for students to quarantine or test negatively if you travel to one of the red states. With the exception of Hawaii, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, all other states in America are red. This means you must test negative when you return from the other states. The testing negative is important for the safety of all of our students, their families, staff, and their families. Thank you in advance for your attention to this.
Children with any illness symptoms
In addition, the flu shot drive through at Nantucket Cottage Hospital will close as of 11/20/20. In addition, the Stop the Spread asymptomatic testing from 8 am -12 pm on Sundays will be ending as of 11/22.
Thank you to all those of you who joined our virtual Open House two weeks ago. I hope you found the information helpful. The staff worked very hard to share information about the classrooms and expectations. I have shared the link again to include just the asynchronous information. This is a good thing to review with your child as well.
