Pleasant Valley Family Newsletter
September 25, 2020
Our mission is to empower and inspire a community of lifelong learners and leaders!
Hello Pleasant Valley Families,
We will be starting our Hybrid Learning for the week of September 28th! Although next week IS NOT a typical Hybrid Learning Schedule due to Kindergarten Orientation (only Green Cohort K students on September 29th and only White Cohort K students on October 1st).
Please read all of the attachments to the email and information in this newsletter carefully! WE have changed the car rider drop off and pick up designated areas for STEM and Traditional families- so please read!!!
Week of 8.29/2020 In-person Hybrid Schedule*
9.29 Green Cohort (A-K) KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS ONLY*
*NO in-person learning for grades 1-4 (work will be assigned for at-home learning through your child's Google Classroom)
9.30 Green Cohort (A-K) All Grades 1-4 Students
10.1 White Cohort (L-Z) KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS ONLY*
*NO in-person learning for grades 1-4 (work will be assigned for at-home learning through your child's Google Classroom)
10.2 White Cohort (L-Z) All Grades 1-4 Students
*If a student arrives at school on a day that they are not assigned for in-person learning, they will be sent home.
As Dr. Smialek, our Superintendent, communicated earlier this week:
When we are in Hybrid Learning, students will attend two days of school per week and complete offline assignments that their teachers post in google classroom on the other three days. Please check our website, parmacityschools.org for more information about the Hybrid Schedule. Elementary PVLA students will follow the same schedule they currently follow.
A few reminders about in-school attendance:
- Parents should perform a check of their child(ren) for COVID symptoms each morning. These are available on our website in our safety plan.
- Masks are mandatory at all times, including at the bus stop and on the bus. (Unless students are eating or drinking)
- We will NOT serve breakfast in school. One week's worth of breakfasts per student is available at the food distribution at Parma Senior High School.
- Elementary students cannot enter school until 9:15 am unless they are a part of our extended daycare program.
We are very excited to again open our doors to our students. The amount of in-person school we will be able to conduct is directly related to our ability to take very seriously everyone's safety. We are confident that our staff, families, and students will rise to the occasion to help us have a positive return!
On your child's assigned Cohort Day, they should BRING:
- CHARGED district-issued device (K-1 iPad & grades 2-4 Chromebooks) and charges on their assigned day with them to be ready to learn!
- Reading, and Math books/workbooks (and grade 4 Science Fusion)- teachers will communicate on Monday what to bring
- Supplies- we will keep them at school and store them individually in a labeled with your child's name Ziplock bag to store student materials. Supply Lists for Hybrid or In-Person Learning Traditional & STEM (Your child's teachers should communicate - the supplies needed that will stay at school)
- A water bottle with your child's name on it. Drinking fountains will not be used.
School lunches will be provided to ALL students at NO COST until December 22nd, 2020. So please take advantage of this by having your child order instead of packing of lunch if you wish. Students will be socially distanced during lunch by only seating thee students for every 6-foot table.
I want to thank our families again for showing incredible respect and grace to our teachers and staff. We are doing all we can to support our Pleasant Valley family during distance learning. No matter your thoughts on our current situation, please continue to stay positive with your children.

Packet Pick-up (Mondays 9-5)
Packets of work will be distributed to families who have been contacted by their child’s teacher. Parents may report to the main entrance of Pleasant Valley Elementary on Mondays between the hours of 9:00am and 5:00pm to pick up packets. Not all teachers will have packets to hand out weekly as the expectation is for most of the work to be done through Google Classroom. Also, as we start HYBRID, students who are not in PVLA will be in the building, therefore, teachers should be giving students any printed materials or supplies needed on the days those students are attending in-person.
