Dear Balboa Academy Community,

As we approach the end of the first semester and the end of the year 2015, I would like to take a moment to thank every member of our Balboa Academy Community. Thank you for choosing to be part of the Balboa Academy family. Thank you for trusting that when you send your children to school with us each day, they will spend their day learning and working toward reaching their full potential. Teachers learn just as much from our students as our students learn from our teachers, and these daily interactions make being a part of Balboa Academy such a full-filling experience.

Our first semester has been an exciting one! We have welcomed new students, new teachers, and new administrators. We have had Color Team, Tribes, and Dragon Days. We had a Welcome to School PTSO picnic, a Pre-School Thanksgiving, and Middle School and Elementary Music programs. Students have taken MAP and PSAT exams, and we are continuously assessing our academic programs to make sure that they are meeting the needs of our students. Soccer, flag football, basketball, and American football games have all been won and lost! All of our seniors are finishing their applications to their universities, and many have already been accepted at the school of their choice. It is a great time to be a Balboa Academy Dragon!

We have a lot of exciting events to look forward to in the New Year 2016:

  • Safety and security training with an all-day workshop for teachers January 18.
  • Finish preparing for our AdvancEd Accreditation visit, April 4-6, 2016.
  • Students will travel to France and Washington, D.C.
  • The PTSO Dragon Festival will take place Saturday, March 5

We look forward to our students’ return Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Have a wonderful, safe holiday season, Dragons!

Balboa Academy has been working with a collaborative team of parents, teachers, and students in preparing our school for our next accreditation visit by Advanced Ed during the first week of April 2016. Our teams have carefully reviewed the AdvancED Standards for Quality, conducted self evaluations and are now archiving supporting documents that showcase student work and evidence. The areas of focus have been:

  • Purpose and Direction
  • Governance and Leadership
  • Teaching and Assessing for Learning
  • Resources and Support Systems
  • Results for continuous improvement

In addition to our day-to-day focus on academics, this team of stakeholders has reviewed and revalidated our Vision/Mission and Core Beliefs.
