From Principal Norvell's Desk
In her tribute to reflection, relationships, and handling the seasons of life, Stevie Nicks may’ve said it best with her enduring lyrics“…I’ve been afraid of changin’, cause I’ve built my life around you, but time makes you bolder, even children get older, and I’m getting older too.”
These “Landslide” lyrics have me pondering this morning that as parents, we build our lives around our children, and parenthood is full of conflicting emotions. Often, we find ourselves thrilled, yet simultaneously saddened by the inevitable nature of change and of “growing up,” and of all that comes with it. Yet grow up, they do, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it, no matter how hard we try.
Well, so it is with other people we build our lives around. They may be with us one day, and for whatever reason and often before we feel like it’s time, they’re gone. Last Friday, our little WBS family bid farewell to Cara Foucht, our Special Education Resource teacher. She was offered a job opportunity that she and her sweet family couldn’t resist, so after 16 years of teaching, she moved on, and while we will find a teacher to fill her position (and a good one…I promise), we all know there’s no “replacing” Ms. Foucht. We will miss our Ms. Foucht (thrilled for her yet simultaneously saddened). And in that same spirit, at the end of this school year, after 22 years at WBS and 30 years in the biz, one of our 3rd grade teachers, Ms. Born will be closing up the gradebook, and setting her sights on that wonderful promise of retirement. Ms. Born…we miss you already.
This November, as the seasons change, things cool off, beautiful fall leaves make their final descent, and as we get "older too,” I hope you don’t have to look far to see what you’re most thankful for. If you are among the lucky, you’re most thankful for those people you’ve built your life around. While you can, I recommend you hold them close and let them know how you feel.
As always, and speaking of thankfulness, thank you for trusting us with your children. Working with and for them is an honor and privilege we don't take lightly.
Sincerely,
Jackson
