A message from our principal:

Dear KMS Families,

Week 2 of school has continued to be successful for our faculty and students. Our students have been cooperative and participatory on all levels. We are all so proud of their behavior both in an out of the classroom.

Students have been working on baseline assessments in both math and reading through the iReady platform. This data is then used by our teachers to develop interventions, student learning objectives, and curriculum modifications and assessments. We will finish with iReady data collection on Wednesday, September 30.

A reminder that there is no school on Monday, September 28. Group A students will report to school on September 29.

Beginning Tuesday, September 29, we will be offering a hot lunch option. The menu for the next two weeks is posted below. Students will be sent a Google Form each morning that will ask if they would like a hot or cold lunch. Only those students who are getting a lunch need to complete this form.

We all appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate through the glitches we have experienced with Google. Our tech team has been working to keep up with the daily challenges while we continue to provide all our students with a meaningful school day.

And to those of you in the KMS community who are observing Yom Kippur on Monday, may you have an easy fast.

Have a great weekend,

Dennis Morrell

COVID Attestation

It has come to our attention that many of the parent portal accounts need to have the TASKS widget on their homepage.

Below are directions for them to access the TASKS widget in order to complete the COVID attestation.

These directions were communicated in a Community Update, but it would be helpful and efficient if you could communicate this to parents if they contact you stating that they do not have a TASKS area.

Please go up to your name in the upper right hand corner and click. Click on "Set Preferences" and click on the "Home" tab. Click on the box for "Tasks".

RI School Support Helpline is Free for Educators, Students, & Families

Highlander Institute recognizes that students, families, and educators have all been impacted in different, unpredictable ways by COVID-19 and school reopening plans. Teachers and families are rising to the challenge, but many of them may have questions or concerns on their minds.

Please spread the word that the RI School Support Helpline (formerly the RI Distance Learning Helpline) is continuing this fall to offer support, address needs, and make connections.

We would like to send a major thank you to Rhode Island Foundation for their generous support of this vital service. We are grateful to the RI Department of Education and the Governor's Office for their partnership.

Are you interested in submitting a request for support or know someone who needs help? Visit our website or leave a voicemail to describe your issue by calling (401) 232-4725.
