St Bernadette's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 11 | 2 July 2021
Message from Geordie
Good afternoon all,
Great news that we are on our way out of lockdown! An awesome way to end the week!
By now I am sure you have just about had enough of me and my constant emails so I will keep this one short. Thanks for your support this week – your patience, emails of thanks and a few cakes have been really appreciated by our staff. Our students have had a fun week here at school and I believe that they have felt safe, happy and had a relatively ‘normal’ week considering the circumstances.
I did have one email this week asking if communication could be sent out via text. While this has definitely been considered, in the end we have been very keen to keep communication consistent and there are a couple of reasons why we have stuck to our online newsletter and emails.
1. You can obviously fit more information in these forms of communication
2. It encourages everyone to read the newsletter each week
3. You can still set up notifications for email on your phone and the newsletter displays well this way
4. Text messages can be used for emergencies or as a ‘last resort’ for quick communication
I hope this clarifies (if there are others wondering about our rationale). My goal is that everyone knows where to find the information they need rather than having things sent out in many different ways. We have not got all our communication perfect yet, however, feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and we continue to work on improving in this area.
Finally in the Compliance section below, I have added the revised Homework Procedures for St Bernie’s that we will trial until the end of the year.
Have a great holiday! I really hope people get the opportunity to do the things that they had planned. Stay safe, relax and I can’t wait for another fun term.

Compliance and Policy section
Below is our revised Homework Procedure document that has been written with feedback from parents and had input from a team of our staff. While there are always very different opinions on topics like this, we believe we have a document that reflects the majority of our community and is manageable for teachers and families.
Our goals are:
1. To be consistent. Homework should be the same across each year group.
2. To be appropriate to the age of the students. Increasing in quantity each year.
3. To be aligned with what is happening in class.
