HHS PLTW Soared to New Heights with their Balloon Launch!
With eagerness the team hopped on a bus and with their tracking systems and devices, followed the balloon on it's journey. Many classrooms had it on their computers to watch the process of it throughout the date and updates were being made constantly. In the end the balloon reached a staggering 98,691 feet into the atmosphere and traveled over 90 miles from Hobart landing in a personal residents back yard in Kokomo, IN!! The experience was one of a kind and an inspiration to all of our Brickies - nothing is impossible! They even made the National PLTW News! Check out the video from the launch and some pictures that were taken throughout the trip below.

JROTC Junior Achievement submitted by Cadet Melynie Koch
On November 22nd, 76 Hobart JROTC cadets made a trip to Ridge View Elementary School to teach about jobs, businesses, and entrepreneurship. The curriculum is called Junior Achievement (JA) which is a non-profit program with the purpose of providing young people with the skills and knowledge they need to have successful futures. The curriculum is comprised of 25 different lessons (five for each grade level) that begin with teaching about the jobs families have to provide for each other and end with students visualizing the connections made between different parts of the world to create a single product. Going to the elementary school to teach JA is one of the JROTC program’s biggest service learning excursions of the year, and several weeks of planning and practice go into the event to ensure that the kids are given substantial information as well as a fun time. Looking at pictures from the event, one would be hard pressed to say the performance didn’t exceed the expectations of the students, their teachers, and our own cadets!
Battalion Commander Kaitlyn Kruszynski takes time in the day to talk to a fifth grade student. | Cadet Sergeant Casey Leonard helps a first grade student with the math required to play one of the Junior Achievement games. | Cadet Staff Sergeant Trinity Salinas shares a farewell with a first grade student she bonded with during the events of the day. |
